According to the latest paper collected by sciencedirect, scientists rely on 20 features and machine learning algorithms to accurately distinguish whether content is created by human paper authors or generated by ChatGPT, and the accuracy can be as high as 99%.

Bing Image Creator generates

AI Detector researchers say the model demonstrated 99% accuracy in distinguishing between human writing and ChatGPT-generated text, and significantly outperformed the GPT-2 Output Detector, an AI detection software provided by ChatGPT maker OpenAI.

The researchers also admitted that the sample data for testing the model algorithm of the competition at this stage is not large enough. They only tested articles from 13 chemical journals and 3 media. Through 20 text features and XGBoost, it can effectively distinguish between human collaboration and GPT- 3.5/GPT-4 generated content.

The researchers say these tests show their method is simple yet effective. They highlighted that the tool demonstrated 98%-100% accuracy in identifying AI-generated text, depending on the prompt and model.

Researchers say OpenAI’s current detector accuracy currently ranges from 10-56%, and the tool is more advanced than OpenAI’s.

The researchers further revealed that the goal behind this research and invention is to provide a way for the scientific community to assess “ChatGPT penetration into chemical journals, determine the consequences of its use, and quickly introduce mitigation strategies if issues arise” .

Since releasing the ChatGPT and Whisper models through an API (application programming interface) in March of this year, the company now has more than 2 million developers, including 92% of Fortune 500 companies.

At the developer conference, in addition to announcing these numbers, OpenAI detailed a number of new features, including a platform that can build customized versions of ChatGPT to help with specific tasks. The company also unveiled a new model, GPT-4 Turbo, with a knowledge base updated through April 2023 that can contain the equivalent of more than 300 pages of text in a single prompt.

After launching nearly a year ago, ChatGPT is widely regarded as the fastest-growing consumer Internet application ever, reaching about 100 million monthly active users in just two months. By comparison, it took Facebook about four and a half years to reach 100 million users after launching in 2004. x (formerly Twitter) took more than five years, and Instagram took more than two years.

Microsoft said its Bing search engine, which earlier this year added generative AI capabilities powered by OpenAI GPT-4, passed the 100 million daily active users milestone in March of this year, more than a decade after its 2009 launch.

However, ChatGPT’s record has already been broken by Meta’s Threads, which amassed 100 million users less than a week after launching in July. But Threads usage seems to have declined in the months since then. As of October, there were fewer than 100 million monthly active users.

No matter which way you analyze these numbers, it’s clear that ChatGPT is still very popular, even though it’s been less than a year since it was launched to the public.

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen OpenAI’s chatbot with a large number of users. Back in February, Similarweb estimated that the tool had reached a milestone of attracting 100 million unique visitors in a month and 25 million visitors per day. It’s worth noting, however, that Monday’s figures came from OpenAI officials, not third-party estimates.

OpenAI seems to be releasing these figures to refute recent media reports that ChatGPT’s popularity has begun to decline since its release last November.

OpenAI is currently launching a new beta version for ChatGPT Plus members. According to user feedback, this update includes the ability to upload files and process files, as well as multi-modal support. This means that users don’t need to select a mode like Browse with Bing from GPT-4’s drop-down menu, but instead automatically guess what the user wants to do based on context.

These new features allow ChatGPT Plus members to also have some of the office features provided by the ChatGPT Enterprise plan. It is reported that after the file is passed to ChatGPT, it takes a few seconds to digest the file, and then it can process the file, such as summarizing the data, answering questions or generating data visualizations according to prompts.

It is noticed that ChatGPT’s new features are not limited to processing text files. On Threads, a user posted a screenshot of a conversation. They uploaded an image of a capybara, and ChatGPT was able to use DALL-E 3 to create a Pixar-style image based on it. They then uploaded another image, this time of a twisted skateboard, and asked ChatGPT to insert it into the above image, which ChatGPT also managed to do, somehow also giving the capybara a hat.

According to the latest findings released by the British consumer organization Which? on Friday local time, criminals will use AI chatbots such as ChatGPT and Bard to create more convincing scams, posing a threat to the public. And the above chatbot lacks effective defence measures.

According to reports, local consumers usually notice that the English grammar and spelling used in fraudulent text messages and emails are often poor, and this has long been an important method for identifying fraudulent content. However, with the advent of chatbots based on generative AI, bad actors can now easily overcome this hurdle.

Consumer organization Which? first asked ChatGPT to create a phishing email from PayPal via GPT 3.5. ChatGPT refused and said it was “unable to help.” When the researchers removed the “phishing” description, ChatGPT could also not help.

So the researchers made a request to “tell the recipient that someone was logged into their PayPal account.” ChatGPT agreed and generated a professional-looking email titled “Important Security Notice – In your Unusual activity detected on PayPal account.”

Additionally, Which?’s researchers asked ChatGPT and Bard to create lost package text messages, and both companies generated “compelling” text content and suggested inserting “redelivery” or “redeliver package” into the text message. link, criminals can then use this link to direct the victim to a malicious website.

Which?’s survey is no accident – it was released to coincide with the UK AI Summit, where government, industry and researchers will come together to tackle the dangers of increasingly intelligent artificial intelligence.

Commenting on the survey, Which? Director of Policy and Advocacy Rocio Concha summed it up this way:

Our investigation clearly illustrates how this new technology is making it easier for criminals to defraud people. The (UK) government’s upcoming AI summit must consider how to protect people from harm occurring in the here and now, rather than focusing solely on the long-term risks of cutting-edge AI.

British Prime Minister Sunak announced plans to establish the world’s first AI security institute and hold an AI security summit on November 1-2. The summit will bring together AI companies, governments, civil society and experts in related fields from around the world to discuss how to reduce the risks posed by AI through international coordinated action.

The chat robot ChatGPT has had a major limitation since its launch, that is, it cannot access the Internet and can only use information before 2021. Now the flaw has finally been fixed, provided users pay.

ChatGPT

At the end of September, OpenAI announced that its chatbot ChatGPT has added web browsing capabilities, can access the Internet in real-time, and provide website links to the source of information. At that time, the feature was currently only available to ChatGPT Plus and Enterprise subscribers and was in a beta phase.

OpenAI announced via its release notes on Tuesday that the web browsing feature has moved from beta to official, making it more convenient for subscribers to use it without having to toggle the beta switch.

According to the instructions, now subscribers only need to select “Browse the web with Bing” from the GPT-4 model selector.

ChatGPT accesses the Internet through Microsoft’s Bing web browser. The web browsing feature, powered by Bing, was initially announced at Microsoft’s Build conference in May and is rolling out to ChatGPT Plus users. However, a few months later, OpenAI pulled the feature after discovering that users were using it to bypass paywalls.

In a September announcement, OpenAI said the company had received helpful feedback from users since its initial rollout in May and incorporated it into new updates, including “Follow robots.txt” and “Identify user agents so websites can You can control how ChatGPT interacts with them.”

ChatGPT Plus membership costs US$20 per month. For users who need the latest information, this new feature may be worth paying because it can improve the accuracy and reliability of the chatbot.

For other users eager to take advantage of this feature, OpenAI said in the original announcement that the feature will be rolled out to all users soon. Until then, Bing Chat is a good alternative as it is also powered by GPT-4, has internet access, and is free.

OpenAI once launched a model called DALL-E, which can generate corresponding pictures based on text descriptions input by users. Last month, OpenAI announced a more advanced version of DALL・E called DALL・E 3, which is now available on ChatGPT.

OpenAI released a beta version of DALL・E 3 through its official website on Monday, allowing some users to use DALL E-3 directly through ChatGPT. While the release notes don’t specify which users will have access to DALL・E 3, when OpenAI first announced the model in September, the company said it would make DALL・E 3 available to ChatGPT Plus and Enterprise users in October.

To use DALL・E 3, users need to select DALL・E 3 under the GPT-4 option in ChatGPT. Once selected, users can enter a text description of any length, from a sentence to a paragraph, to describe their desired artwork, and the DALL・E 3 will generate the image in seconds.

When OpenAI announced DALL・E 3, it said that this model can surpass the capabilities of the previous DALL・E 2, generate more accurate and detailed pictures, and better capture the nuances in text descriptions.

It is noticed that Microsoft has provided DALL・E 3 in Bing Chat for free.

The artificial intelligence chatbot ChatGPT’s efforts in the mobile field have received huge rewards, but it is also facing challenges. On the positive side, both installs and revenue continue to grow, with September setting new records in both categories.

Data shows that ChatGPT’s iOS and Android apps have been downloaded 15.6 million times worldwide, with total revenue of nearly $4.6 million. However, its revenue growth has started to slow, according to the latest data from market intelligence firm Appfigures.

While ChatGPT’s revenue grew by more than 30% over the past few months, with 31% in July and 39% in August, by September this number had dropped to 20%.

Slowing revenue growth could be the first sign that ChatGPT is approaching saturation, which could indicate how many mobile users are willing to pay for an upgraded ChatGPT+ subscription service. For $19.99 per month, subscribers get faster response times, priority access during peak hours, and earlier access to new features and improvements.

So far, the sales of the ChatGPT subscription service are good. The total revenue of the mobile ChatGPT in June was US$2.1 million, which increased to US$2.74 million in July, US$3.81 million in August, and hit a record of US$4.58 million in September. Latest record.

Surprisingly, however, ChatGPT is not the highest-grossing AI app. Appfigures data shows that the app’s rival Ask AI has made even more with its hefty ad spend, growing from $6.48 million in May when ChatGPT mobile launched to $6.55 million in August.

Ask AI’s revenue fell slightly in September, to $5.51 million, but was still higher than ChatGPT’s. Other competitors, like Genie and AI Chat Smith, haven’t gotten as big as Ask AI.

Of course, net revenue may be another story given Ask AI’s ad spend. As for ChatGPT, the company netted about $3.2 million in September after Apple and Google took a cut of in-app purchase revenue.

In addition to record revenue, ChatGPT also had 15.6 million installs in September, taking its total installs to 52.2 million, Appfigures estimates. Google Play had the largest number of downloads, with 9 million downloads in September, while Apple’s App Store had 6.6 million downloads.

But there’s no doubt that the Apple App Store remains the mainstay of ChatGPT’s revenue, which accounted for $3 million of total in-app purchases last month. The U.S. is the largest market for the AI-powered chatbot app, accounting for 60% of ChatGPT’s revenue.

Security software Avast on Wednesday in the official blog publicized its latest discovery: a “love scam”.

According to the introduction, criminals will use ChatGPT to create false dating, dating profiles, it can even bypass the security measures of the relevant App, and can complete the likes, reply to potential objects and create a “credible” profile: from the passionate poet to the sunny and cheerful travel enthusiasts are not a matter of course.

Avast named the tool that uses ChatGPT to create scams “LoveGPT”. According to Avast, the tool has been around for more than a decade, but it wasn’t until a few months ago, when generative AI tools such as ChatGPT rose to prominence, that it began integrating OpenAI’s technology, “an integration that took it to a new level of functionality, where its voice resonated with authenticity.”

According to the report, “LoveGPT” can discuss a user’s favourite movie, empathize with his or her daily encounters, and even tug at the heartstrings with a fictional memory.

In the announcement, Avast said that “LoveGPT” will be found on Facebook Dating, MeetMe, Tinder and other popular dating platforms. It also reminds netizens of the things they need to be aware of before using dating and personal apps:

Verify the person before trusting him or her: If you feel that the conversation you are having with him or her is too perfect, or the person’s profile is too elaborate, do a deep dive on the person, such as doing a quick image reverse search.

Stay vigilant: be wary of accounts that seem eager to share personal stories or ask for one’s personal information.

Prioritize self-safety: Never share your home address, workplace, or financial information with someone you’ve just met online — no matter how real the person seems.
