Security software Avast on Wednesday in the official blog publicized its latest discovery: a “love scam”.
According to the introduction, criminals will use ChatGPT to create false dating, dating profiles, it can even bypass the security measures of the relevant App, and can complete the likes, reply to potential objects and create a “credible” profile: from the passionate poet to the sunny and cheerful travel enthusiasts are not a matter of course.
Avast named the tool that uses ChatGPT to create scams “LoveGPT”. According to Avast, the tool has been around for more than a decade, but it wasn’t until a few months ago, when generative AI tools such as ChatGPT rose to prominence, that it began integrating OpenAI’s technology, “an integration that took it to a new level of functionality, where its voice resonated with authenticity.”
According to the report, “LoveGPT” can discuss a user’s favourite movie, empathize with his or her daily encounters, and even tug at the heartstrings with a fictional memory.
In the announcement, Avast said that “LoveGPT” will be found on Facebook Dating, MeetMe, Tinder and other popular dating platforms. It also reminds netizens of the things they need to be aware of before using dating and personal apps:
Verify the person before trusting him or her: If you feel that the conversation you are having with him or her is too perfect, or the person’s profile is too elaborate, do a deep dive on the person, such as doing a quick image reverse search.
Stay vigilant: be wary of accounts that seem eager to share personal stories or ask for one’s personal information.
Prioritize self-safety: Never share your home address, workplace, or financial information with someone you’ve just met online — no matter how real the person seems.
