ChatGPT Mobile Revenue Reaches New High of $4.6 Million in September

The artificial intelligence chatbot ChatGPT’s efforts in the mobile field have received huge rewards, but it is also facing challenges. On the positive side, both installs and revenue continue to grow, with September setting new records in both categories.

Data shows that ChatGPT’s iOS and Android apps have been downloaded 15.6 million times worldwide, with total revenue of nearly $4.6 million. However, its revenue growth has started to slow, according to the latest data from market intelligence firm Appfigures.

While ChatGPT’s revenue grew by more than 30% over the past few months, with 31% in July and 39% in August, by September this number had dropped to 20%.

Slowing revenue growth could be the first sign that ChatGPT is approaching saturation, which could indicate how many mobile users are willing to pay for an upgraded ChatGPT+ subscription service. For $19.99 per month, subscribers get faster response times, priority access during peak hours, and earlier access to new features and improvements.

So far, the sales of the ChatGPT subscription service are good. The total revenue of the mobile ChatGPT in June was US$2.1 million, which increased to US$2.74 million in July, US$3.81 million in August, and hit a record of US$4.58 million in September. Latest record.

Surprisingly, however, ChatGPT is not the highest-grossing AI app. Appfigures data shows that the app’s rival Ask AI has made even more with its hefty ad spend, growing from $6.48 million in May when ChatGPT mobile launched to $6.55 million in August.

Ask AI’s revenue fell slightly in September, to $5.51 million, but was still higher than ChatGPT’s. Other competitors, like Genie and AI Chat Smith, haven’t gotten as big as Ask AI.

Of course, net revenue may be another story given Ask AI’s ad spend. As for ChatGPT, the company netted about $3.2 million in September after Apple and Google took a cut of in-app purchase revenue.

In addition to record revenue, ChatGPT also had 15.6 million installs in September, taking its total installs to 52.2 million, Appfigures estimates. Google Play had the largest number of downloads, with 9 million downloads in September, while Apple’s App Store had 6.6 million downloads.

But there’s no doubt that the Apple App Store remains the mainstay of ChatGPT’s revenue, which accounted for $3 million of total in-app purchases last month. The U.S. is the largest market for the AI-powered chatbot app, accounting for 60% of ChatGPT’s revenue.
