Yet another electric vehicle battery-related accident, but this time involving the Xpeng P7. This isn’t a situation of poor battery quality, but an accident that badly damaged the battery. This damage lead to a fire outbreak that slowly engulfed the car.

Correspondents from Xpeng Motors were swift to handle the accident when called upon. The fire was put out in no time, and investigations on the cause of the accident began afterwards. Turns out that the EV ran into a foreign object while driving, and this collision left damage to the battery.

In turn, the damage led to combustion due to overheating of the battery components under the vehicle. Happily, no one got hurt in the accident which took place in Shanghai, China. Firefighters were able to curd and put out the fire, hence preventing it from spreading.

This accident certainly calls for more attention to EV batteries, since they are directly under the vehicle. Often time, when compressed or under intense pressure, the battery tends to combust. This leads to a fire outbreak and that is the best explanation for this Xpeng P7 accident. Possibly, Xpeng will research new ways to strengthen their batteries to avoid any case of damage.
