The New York Times recently confirmed this news again from internal channels and disclosed more details. The relevant content is as follows:

Apple has indeed begun discussions with Google to use Gemini’s generative AI models in the next iPhone.

Three people familiar with the matter said the talks are preliminary and the exact scope of the potential deal has not yet been determined. Apple has also been in discussions with other artificial intelligence companies, one of the people said, and it hopes to harness the power of large language models to analyze large amounts of data and generate text on its own.

Two people familiar with its development revealed that although Apple is developing its own large-scale language model, the gap with ChatGPT and Gemini will not be able to catch up in a short time.

Apple’s 2023 fourth fiscal quarter report conference call held today, CEO Cook was asked about artificial intelligence (AI)-related issues and revealed some details.

If you look carefully at what we do in terms of AI and machine learning, and how we use them, these are the "foundational technologies" that are integral to every product we produce.

For example, our iOS 17 includes features such as personal voice and real-time voicemail, and AI is the core of these features. You can also learn more about a range of "life-saving" features on your watch and phone, such as fall detection, car accident detection and EKG on your watch. Without AI, these capabilities would not be possible.

Artificial intelligence and machine learning are used behind these functions, but we do not deliberately use the words "AI" to promote them because in our promotion we hope to bring more valuable functions to them from the perspective of consumers.

We're already working on generative AI, but I'm not going to go into detail. What you can be sure of is that we are investing considerable capital and we will do it responsibly. Over time, you'll see products with these technologies at their core improve.

Bloomberg reported last month that Apple is quietly catching up with competitors in the AI field. On the one hand, it has increased AI-related recruitment efforts, and on the other hand, it has also accelerated its growth through mergers and acquisitions of start-up companies. AI technology has matured and been implemented, and large language models have been developed internally.

In addition, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman mentioned in a Power On newsletter last month that the “smarter” Siri assistant will not be ready until next year at the earliest, and there are still people within Apple who are worried about this technology. , and it may take longer for Apple’s AI capabilities to become widespread across its product line.

Qualcomm officially launched the X Elite processor at the Snapdragon Summit that opened yesterday and announced 9 of its first partners.

At this event, current Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and Windows + Devices Vice President Pavan Davuluri also attended the event and discussed Snapdragon X The impact of Elite and NPU on the future of Windows.

Satya Nadella said in his speech:

Generative AI has set off another revolution after the mobile revolution and cloud revolution, which will affect the entire Internet and PC market.

Many people's views may still remain on whether the system interface can be more humane, whether the interface interaction can be more natural, and whether human capabilities can be enhanced through computing, but I think the introduction of AI will soon transcend these categories.

The arrival of AI will completely change the interaction of operating systems, UIs and applications.

Satya Nadella claims that integrating generative artificial intelligence into Windows will change the way we interact with computers. He said that in the foreseeable future, this revolutionary new interface will bring about disruptive usage methods.

Satya Nadella then talked about hybrid computing, part of which is as follows:

Looking at the innovations that are coming, on devices with powerful NPUs, the core question is how to write applications that fully leverage local computing and cloud inference, which is what we plan to achieve through the Windows AI ecosystem.

So I think we're actually going to have a lot of applications with local models, hybrid models, and that's the future of AI.

Mixing is important because not all PCs are capable of rendering AI workloads natively. Next-generation computers equipped with NPUs will be able to handle more aspects of artificial intelligence locally, but not everything can be done on the device.

This will be how features like Microsoft Copilot work, where most of the functionality you’ll use is rendered in the cloud but mixed with on-device processing where it makes sense.

Satya Nadella said:

A new generation of artificially intelligent computers is being created, so the work we're doing together will bring together these experiences that wouldn't be possible without new system architectures. For us, the most important experience will be Copilot.

At the beginning of the Windows system, we introduced the concept of the Start button. In the future, Copilot will become the new start button in Windows systems.

For example, Copilot can understand our intentions, guide us to open a certain application, help me learn, query, and create, completely changing the user's habits.

Qualcomm is about to release its latest flagship mobile platform, Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. According to a leaked internal document seen by Mspoweruser, the new processor will bring power to the next generation of flagship smartphones to generate generative artificial intelligence capabilities.

According to internal documents, Qualcomm claims that Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is its first mobile platform designed for generative artificial intelligence and the most powerful and full-featured mobile platform on the market.

Additionally, Qualcomm says the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will “challenge consoles” and “high-end levels,” with ray tracing and global illumination capabilities powered by Unreal Engine 5.2, and the ability to upscale cutscenes to 8K.

Here are the full specs for Snapdragon 8 Gen 3:

The picture shows that Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 uses a “1 + 5 + 2” CPU cluster and uses a 4nm process. The CPU is 30% faster and consumes 20% less power, but the slide doesn’t reveal whether these improvements are compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 or the previous version. As for the Adreno 750 GPU, the images show that it offers a 25% improvement in performance and efficiency over the previous generation.

The image also reveals that Qualcomm is focusing on smartphone gaming and has equipped the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 with support for Unreal Engine 5, as well as the company’s Snapdragon Gaming Super-Resolution technology, which can upscale the picture to 8K. You can also experience smooth 240FPS on a 240Hz display with the help of Qualcomm’s Adreno Frame Motion Engine 2.0, although the slide doesn’t mention how many games can run at such a frame rate.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 offers on-device AI support with over 10 billion parameters, while the Hexagon NPU is 98% faster and 40% more efficient than the previous generation. And as expected, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 integrates Qualcomm’s next-generation 5G modem, supporting 10Gbps downlink speeds and 3.5Gbps uplink speeds. The chipset also supports Wi-Fi 7 and can reach speeds of 5.8Gbps.

The image above also shows the maximum memory support, camera, display and other details. Notable among them is the USB version, which is 3.1 Gen 2 and has a maximum bandwidth of 10Gbps, which means that it will be equipped with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and support the above specifications. The Android flagship phone can connect to an external monitor for gaming just like the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.

Qualcomm 2023 Snapdragon Summit will be held on October 25-26, when Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will be officially unveiled.
