Google announced today that it is testing 2 new generative AI features aimed at improving the YouTube viewing experience. During the test period, these new additions will be accessible to select YouTube users.
New features as follows:
AI Summary Comment Topic
Google is experimenting with using AI to summarize large comment sections of long videos into digestible topics for discussion. Google says creators can use these review snippets to engage in review discussions or inspire new content.
Topics are pulled from published comments and are not created from comments that are pending or contain blocked words. Users participating in the test will see a new option to sort certain videos by topic when opening comments on a mobile device.
Conversational AI tools
The tool lets users get answers to questions about the video they’re watching, recommendations for related content, and more without interrupting playback. For some academic videos, the tool can aid the learning journey by providing quizzes and answers that encourage deeper understanding.
Starting today, the feature is available on select videos for a small group of users, and in the coming weeks, U.S. YouTube Premium members on Android devices will be able to join the experiment.
