AMD launched the Ryzen 7000 series mobile processors in January this year, one of the highlights is the artificial intelligence acceleration hardware module equipped with XDNA.

AMD believes that XDNA has a significant application in the mobile Ryzen processor ecosystem, but it is not eager to promote it to desktop processors.

David McAfee, vice president of AMD, recently accepted an interview with PC World media, saying that AMD has introduced a special inference processing unit (IPU) module in the CPU to specifically handle artificial intelligence-related load tasks.

McAfee said that AI-related workloads will be transferred to the GPU, and the IPU will be introduced, just like the CPU in current video encoding, to assist the GPU to complete AI tasks.

AMD will consider extending AI accelerators to Ryzen processors in the future, but the current focus is on mobile solutions. It is learned from reports that McAfee said that desktop PCs have sufficient overall performance, and the actual benefit of training Ryzen Threadripper to use artificial intelligence to accelerate operations will not be great.
