M2 MacBook Air starts pre-orders Shipping dates start slipping instantly

Within minutes of Apple opening pre-orders for the new M2 MacBook Air, shipping dates slipped from a week to between July 18 and July 25, 2022 – and it’s only getting worse. Of the two new M2-based Macs announced at WWDC 2022, the MacBook Air has received the most attention – and now appears to have received the most pre-orders. Originally scheduled to ship by Friday, July 15, 2022, the stock M2 MacBook Air now on order will not arrive before Monday, July 18.

However, adding any customization options, whether it’s extra SSD storage or even pre-installed software will make shipping take longer. The top-of-the-line M2 MacBook Air can still be ordered today, but Apple estimates that it will ship between August 2 and August 9, 2022.

Apple’s 2022 MacBook Air with the M2 chip, another Mac notebook, the 13-inch MacBook Pro, is available for pre-order on June 17, 2022, though there are some odd occurrences, such as various configurations initially listed as unavailable, it doesn’t appear to be experiencing the same shipping delays as other products Apple has launched recently. The reason for the discrepancy is that the 13-inch MacBook Pro is seen as only a slight update to the previous model even with the new M2 processor. The new M2 MacBook Air has been completely redesigned and is, therefore, more popular.

The MacBook Air has the same M2 processor, plus a slightly larger screen, but at a significantly lower price, meaning it is the sweet spot in Apple’s new lineup.

The new M2 MacBook Air also has more ports than the 13-inch MacBook Pro, plus MagSafe, screen bangs, and a 1080p webcam. Prices start at $1199.
