Apple expected to skip M3 and release M4 version of Mac mini by year’s end

According to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, Apple may skip the M3 version of the Mac mini and switch to the more powerful M4 chip.

Mark Gurman has previously said that Apple plans to release new Mac mini models with M4 and M4 Pro chips in “late 2024 to early 2025.” Now he’s further confirmed that with the new Mac mini arriving as soon as the end of this year, there won’t be enough room to “launch M3 models” before then, so these Mac models will skip the M3 generation.

The Mac Mini currently on sale will be released in January 2023, equipped with M2 and M2 Pro chips, and priced from 4,499 RMB. The M2 model supports the connection of up to 2 monitors at the same time, and the M2 Pro model supports the connection of up to 3 monitors at the same time.

In the Power On newsletter recently released by Mark Gurman, he once again shared the update roadmap for new Mac devices equipped with M4 series chips. The schedule attached is as follows:

Apple will launch a lower-end 14-inch MacBook Pro with M4 before the end of 2024;

Apple will launch 24-inch iMac with M4 before the end of 2024;

Apple will launch new 14-inch and 16-inch high-end MacBook Pro with M4 Pro/Max chips in late 2024/early 2025;

Apple will launch Mac mini in late 2024/early 2025 with M4 and M4 Pro configurations;

Apple expects to release new 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air around spring 2025;

Apple will launch Mac Studio with high-end M4 chip in mid-2025;

Apple will launch a Mac Pro with an M4 Ultra chip in the second half of 2025.
