Most importantly, the material could also be used in the iPhone, which means Apple could launch a ceramic version of the iPhone in the future that would greatly improve the feel of the iPhone.
In the patent, titled “Electronic Devices with Textured Zirconia-based Components,” Apple describes the zirconia-based components as providing a matte appearance to the outer surface of electronic devices. While the patent does not give full details of the zirconia-based components, it does suggest that the zirconia-based components could be composed of ceramics, such as partially stabilized zirconia ceramics or alumina-toughened zirconia ceramics.
In addition, the matte look means that the material could be used in the iPhone Pro series, and the standard iPhone will most likely not have a ceramic body.
