Apple’s new patent announced, future iPhone may have ceramic version

August 15 news, as a handheld device, the feel of the phone has always been of great concern. For this reason, cell phone manufacturers have developed plastic, glass, vegan leather, ceramic and many other materials of the phone’s rear shell. The ceramic material has only appeared on a few high-end flagship phones, like the Xiaomi MIX 4, OPPO Find X5 Pro and so on.

An Apple patent shows a zirconia ceramic material that could be used in future watch models, Forbes reported yesterday. Most importantly, the material could also be used in the iPhone, which means Apple could launch a ceramic version of the iPhone in the future that would greatly improve the feel of the iPhone.

In the patent, titled “Electronic Devices with Textured Zirconia-based Components,” Apple describes the zirconia-based components as providing a matte appearance to the outer surface of electronic devices. While the patent does not give full details of the zirconia-based components, it does suggest that the zirconia-based components could be composed of ceramics, such as partially stabilized zirconia ceramics or alumina-toughened zirconia ceramics.

In addition, the matte look means that the material could be used in the iPhone Pro series, and the standard iPhone will most likely not have a ceramic body.

Zirconia refers to zirconium dioxide, with high hardness, high toughness, wear resistance, corrosion resistance, high temperature and other physical characteristics, is the main raw material for artificial diamonds.

The ceramic body of Xiaomi MIX 4 is made of high-purity nano-zirconia composite material, which reduces the weight of the ceramic body of Xiaomi MIX 4 by 30% compared to traditional ceramic materials. This allows the machine to retain the ceramic texture while reducing the weight of the whole machine.
