Apple had M1 Mac Pro ready but decided to wait for the M2 Extreme upgrade

In a new interview, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reveals some details related to a yet-to-be-released Apple product, suggesting that the M1 Mac Pro is not coming and that the Mac mini is not being redesigned. Mark Gurman has a history of reliable reporting, such as recently sharing in the “Power On” newsletter that the Apple Watch Series 8 may have a “Pro” enhancement.

In an interview hosted by the Max Tech Channel, Mark Gurman began by discussing the M2 MacBook Air.

As the conversation progressed, he revealed a few more Apple products that have yet to be released and may not be officially coming.

I don’t think the Mac mini will see a redesign, and it’s not even clear where this rumor is coming from, as the specs are still a bit bumpy.

Jon Prosser has mentioned rumors of a new Mac mini before, and while there have been some pretty accurate breaks, there have been occasional major missteps – like an Apple Watch with flat edges or an iPhone with a rear camera module that doesn’t protrude from the body.

With the release of the Mac Studio, many thought Apple would not release a completely redesigned Mac mini model. Until recently, however, there were rumors of an anticipated line of Mac Pro workstations with the M1 chip.

"Mark Gurman adds -- Apple may have had an M1 Mac Pro ready to go months ago, but speculation is that the company has long since abandoned it. As for why it did so, perhaps it was just to wait for the M2 Pro upgrade."
