The Witcher 4: Unreal Engine 5 has not yet accelerated game development

CD Projekt Red announced a year ago that the game “The Witcher 4” will no longer use the company’s internal REDengine, but instead use Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 5. CDPR promises that this move will “improve the predictability and efficiency of development”, but the official recently admitted that it is still in the running-in stage and has not yet accelerated game development.

Adam Kiciński, CEO of CD Projekt Red, said at a recent earnings call that the development of The Witcher 4 has yet to accelerate after switching to Unreal Engine 5. Kiciński said that there are currently about 200 employees involved in the production of the game, and it will take longer to run in.

The meeting is as follows:

"The basic work such as the supporting tool set is still in preparation. Some developers are still learning Unreal Engine 5 technology. We're working with Epic on The Witcher 4, and it's not going to slow down or speed up the development process right now.

But as the run-in is over, the related preparations can accelerate our next project. Once our people have mastered these technologies, we are on track to launch 3 big Witcher games in the next 6 years."
