Tesla chief designer: Cybertruck may be equipped with a Yoke steering wheel

Tesla’s chief designer Franz von Holzhausen said in a recent interview that the production version of the Tesla Cybertruck truck may use the Yoke steering wheel, instead of the traditional round steering wheel.

The Cybertruck has been in development for a few years, and after the new Tesla Model S and Model X introduced the Yoke steering wheel, a prototype of the Cybertruck was recently spotted using it as well.

While Tesla has recently decided to offer traditional steering wheel retrofits to Model S and Model X owners, the Cybertruck will likely feature the Yoke steering wheel.

Franz von Holzhausen said in an interview that the Cybertruck design is “almost complete” and that the company is leaning toward equipping the car with a Yoke steering wheel.

Franz von Holzhausen said, “I think the Yoke steering wheel makes a lot of sense, and it’s a great driving experience when combined with autonomous driving. It makes the whole user experience and the interior cockpit simpler and cleaner. So we are considering using this steering wheel in the Cybertruck as well.”

However, Franz von Holzhausen also said that no final decision has been made yet.

Tesla’s Yoke steering wheel has received mixed reviews from owners of the new Model S and Model X and has even been scrutinized by the NHTSA. Some Model S and Model X owners who were unhappy with the Yoke steering wheel took it upon themselves to modify the traditional steering wheel. This is no longer necessary, as Tesla officially offers a traditional steering wheel conversion service.

Perhaps Tesla will offer two steering wheels for the Cybertruck, and users can make a choice based on their preferences when placing an order.

The Tesla Cybertruck will begin initial production in mid-2023, with mass production expected to begin by the end of this year.
