Microsoft released a non-security preview update for Windows 11 21H2 and Windows 10 22H2 earlier today that fixes a bunch of issues. In addition to that, Microsoft has released a new OOBE (Out-of-box experience) improvement update for Windows 11 21H2.

The March OOBE update added Shim to improve compatibility with Component Object Model (COM) objects, and the April OOBE update also addressed compatibility issues, related to the registry.

Microsoft says the update will install automatically during OOBE if an Internet connection is available, requiring a restart of the device to complete the installation.

For the May OOBE update release, Microsoft simply mentioned that in order to improve the Windows 21H2 out-of-the-box experience, this update only applies to the Windows 11 OOBE process and is only available when the OOBE update is installed.

The official OOBE Update support documentation (under KB5026910) details the documentation provided with this release.

Microsoft Windows 11 22H2 official release was recently pushed, however, Windows 11 and some Intel processors seem to have some compatibility issues that can cause blue screens.

In a Sept. 22 announcement, Microsoft said there are incompatibility issues with certain driver versions for Intel’s 11th generation Core processors and Intel Smart Sound Technology (Intel SST) on Windows 11.

Windows 11 devices with the affected Intel SST drivers may experience blue screen errors. The affected driver will be named Intel® Smart Sound Technology (Intel® SST) Audio Controller under System Devices in Device Manager with the file name IntcAudioBus.sys and the file version 10.29.0.5152 or 10.30.0.5152.

Only devices with both Intel 11th Generation Core processors and Intel SST driver version 10.29.0.5152 or 10.30.0.5152 are affected by this issue.

Microsoft says it has implemented a compatibility pause for devices with the affected Intel SST drivers installed to prevent the availability of Windows 11 version 22H2 or Windows 11 version 21H2 in order to safeguard the upgrade experience for users.

Users can resolve this by upgrading the Intel SST driver to version 10.30.00.5714 and higher or 10.29.00.5714 and higher.

Optional update KB5017383 for Windows 11 21H2 was released today. This optional update is already available through Windows Update, but due to its optional nature, users can decide whether to install it based on their needs. However, the contents of this optional update will be integrated into the cumulative update that will be released on next month’s Patch Tuesday event day.

The KB5017383 update appears in Windows Update as “2022-09 Cumulative Update Preview for Windows 11 Version 21H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5017383) “After users confirm the download and installation, they will need to reboot the device to take effect. Users can also download the offline installer through the Update Catalog.

Microsoft introduced the “dynamic widgets” feature in Windows 11 KB5017383 (Build 22000.1042), which was previously exclusive to Windows 11 22H2, but is now backward compatible to 21H2. With dynamic widgets, Microsoft wants to make the taskbar more attractive with widget icons and regular updates.

The widget integrated into the taskbar should soon allow users to see financial market trading prices and other updates. And it still works in the same way: you will get the information directly on the taskbar, without even clicking on the icons. As you can see in the screenshot below, the taskbar will show live updates from the Sports and Finance widgets.
