The analysis company CCS Insight previously predicted that due to reduced revenue and fierce competition, HTC is expected to withdraw from the VR industry by 2026 and sell its intellectual property rights to other large companies.

It is noted that CCS Insight chief analyst Ben Wood said that HTC is one of the pioneers in the VR field and has done a lot of work in this area, but the competition is a bit hard, and Meta’s Quest has been priced very aggressively. strategy, barely above cost, to drive market adoption. He said HTC may have a slight boost from Apple’s entry into the space, as Apple revives interest in the product category. But in the end, he believed it would be difficult for HTC to gain a foothold and predicted it would exit the market by 2026 and sell its intellectual property to other large companies.

In response to this, HTC responded, saying that it “strictly denies these market rumors and predictions” and stated that VR, AR and AI technologies will integrate with human nature, release human imagination and change the world; smartphones will be the key to 5G The first step is that VR, AR and AI will become killer applications. “No other company is more capable than HTC of realizing this vision.”

HTC pointed out that every industry needs time to develop and open up the ecosystem. As the world is investing key resources to promote the development of the next Internet generation, HTC is also working side by side with its partners to continue to promote the XR, AI, Blockchain and VIVERSE ecosystem. evolution and perfection.

HTC emphasized that it will continue to make correct decisions on overall operations to promote the future development of HTC. It believes that the current and future business strategies are correct and will continue to strengthen the brand spirit of HTC and VIVE.

According to foreign media CNBC, analysis company CCS Insight claimed that HTC may withdraw from the VR field in 2026.

HTC is a pioneer in the Android mobile phone market, launching classic models such as HTC Hero, HTC Legend, HTC Desire, and HTC One in the early days. But in 2017, HTC gradually withdrew from the smartphone market and sold its mobile phone business to Google.

After exiting the mobile phone business, HTC has largely bet its future on VR headsets and the Metaverse. In January this year, HTC launched the Vive XR Elite headset, a lightweight XR all-in-one machine focused on gaming, fitness and productivity, priced at US$1,099.

CCS Insight believes that HTC may eventually withdraw from the VR field due to reduced revenue and intensified competition from Meta, Sony and Apple.

Ben Wood, chief analyst at CCS Insight, said that HTC is one of the pioneers in the field of VR. The company has done a lot of work in related fields, but HTC still lacks bargaining power compared to companies such as Meta. Meta is now ready to take “very aggressive measures”. “Pricing”, selling the Quest headset at a price that is only slightly above cost.

It is found that Ben Wood also believes that as Apple enters the relevant market with the Vision Pro headset, people may rekindle interest in the field of virtual reality, which will also help HTC’s sales increase slightly, but in the end, HTC may be “difficult to maintain”.

Ben Wood predicts that HTC will exit the VR field by 2026 and “sell the results of its previous exploration to other players in the field.”

Valve is a company known for its mystery, whether in the game or in the field of virtual reality (VR), the company has rarely revealed its development plans. However, a recent Steam client update hinted that the company is secretly developing a long-awaited standalone VR headset.

Technical analyst and Steam data-mining expert Brad Lynch has discovered that the latest update to the Steam client contains some VR-specific strings related to batteries, which seems to support the rumor that Valve is currently working on a platform for some sort of standalone VR headset.

The update also mentions that some new UI elements, icons, and animations have been added to the VR portion of the Steam client, which is not supposed to be for a rival headset.

Meanwhile, Korea’s National Radio Research Agency (RAA) recently certified a “low-power wireless device” from Valve. It’s not clear if the device is actually a standalone VR headset, as the radio certification only mentions that it uses the 5 GHz wireless band.

Valve hasn’t publicly announced that it’s working on a standalone VR headset, but with competition from Apple and Meta growing, it’s likely that the company will launch the “standalone Index” in 2024. Valve Index is widely regarded as the best headset for PC VR, with excellent quality, performance and comfort.

Valve boss Gabe Newell called his Steam Deck handheld “a stepping stone to standalone VR hardware,” saying that the Steam Deck represented “battery-capable, high-performance horsepower that can be used for VR apps. capable, high-performance horsepower” for VR apps.

South Korean and Chinese companies are accumulating patents on meta-universe hardware as the electronics industry looks for growth opportunities in areas other than smartphones, according to research. Among them, LG Electronics and Huawei are climbing up the rankings.

VR headset

IDC, a well-known market research company in the United States, predicts that by 2026, the global metaverse market will reach 74.7 billion US dollars, a four-fold increase within five years. Specialized hardware plays a key role in accessing virtual spaces, such as the 3D headset unveiled last month by Facebook parent company Meta.

According to the metaverse patent ranking compiled by foreign media and Tokyo research company Cyber Creative Institute, since 2016, LG has submitted the most metaverse patent applications, and its ranking has climbed from No. 11 in 2010-2015 to No. 1. Samsung Electronics came in second. Display color schemes and semiconductors are among South Korean companies’ strong suits, quickly gaining a foothold in core components rather than headsets and other finished products.

Huawei, which did not make the top 20 in previous surveys, has now jumped to fourth place with a large number of patents related to image and display processing. ByteDance, TikTok’s parent company, has also strengthened its metaverse development capabilities through acquisitions.

Meta is third, Microsoft is fifth, and Intel and Apple are also among the six U.S. companies that made the top 10. Sony is the only Japanese company to make it into the top 10, coming in at number six.

Taken together, the top 20 companies filed a total of 7,760 metaverse patents, of which the United States accounted for 57%, followed by South Korea with 19%, and China with 12%. Japanese companies accounted for 8%.

The German cartel office is worried about Meta’s monopoly on the VR market, and Meta has responded to those concerns by announcing that VR headsets can be used even without a Facebook account.

Germany’s Joint Enterprise Authority has been trying to curb the market influence of digital companies, and Meta is a key target, having said in May that Meta has a significant influence on cross-market competition.

In a statement, the authority said Meta will allow users to use the VR device through a separate Meta account.

Andreas Mundt, chairman of the Authority, has noted on social media that “if only Facebook or Instagram members can use VR headsets, then competition in two areas (i.e. VR and social media) will be hurt.” Meta is the dominant player in both the social media market and the growing VR market.

While Meta allows users to log in through their Meta accounts, the German Joint Enterprise Authority will remain vigilant and will closely monitor the design of user options and the aggregation and processing of Meta user data in the future.

For those in the VR device market looking for relatively inexpensive hardware, there are actually a lot of options, and it’s clear that more will emerge in the coming months and even years. Of course, if you don’t care too much about price, nothing can beat the Valve Index as far as hardware strength is concerned – and it seems that Valve will continue to develop for the VR hardware market.

According to Upload VR, Valve has posted a job listing for a computer vision software engineer position that seems to indicate the company may be working on a new virtual reality headset device.

The job posting reads, “We’re looking for versatile, autonomous software engineers in computer vision to help us take the next step in VR, which has millions of customers worldwide.” “The primary responsibility of this position is to prototype, deliver and support consumer gaming products using visual-inertial tracking (HMDs and controllers), camera transfer, environmental understanding, eye tracking and manual tracking.”

Valve has had great success in the hardware market recently, particularly with the release of Steam Deck earlier this year, and while the company has made it clear in the past that it will continue to invest in VR, it remains to be seen whether it will balance the two or focus on Steam Deck.

Meta Platforms CEO Mark Zuckerberg is reportedly urging internal teams to organize and attend virtual reality sessions, even though many of the company’s employees don’t yet have virtual reality (VR) headsets.

People familiar with the matter said Mark Zuckerberg asked employees this year to hold meetings in Meta’s Horizon Workrooms application to hold meetings. With this application, people can hold meetings in various virtual office spaces by means of avatars.
Meta, formerly known as Facebook, officially changed its name last year. The company launched Horizon Workrooms in 2021. must have Meta Quest 2 virtual reality headset in order to use Horizon Workrooms.

Many Meta employees have not purchased virtual reality headsets until this year, or have not had time to configure them, people familiar with the matter said. If the company insists on requiring them to attend virtual reality meetings, they will have to rush to buy and register the Meta Quest 2 headset.

Meta raised the price of the Quest 2 headset this August from $299 to $399. The Quest 2 was originally called the Oculus Quest 2 when it was released in 2020, but Meta renamed it the Meta Quest 2 the following year.

Andy Stone, a spokesman for the company, said it’s easy to be “skeptical of innovative technology,” but much harder to create it.

Stone said, “We’re in charge of creating it now because we believe the metaverse is the future of computing.”

The information comes from anonymous interviews with dozens of current and former Meta employees, as well as internal communication documents. Two of the employees revealed that some Meta employees believed the metaverse project was merely “pleasing Za.

Internal memos previously obtained by the media showed that Meta employees were not using the Horizon Worlds app in sufficient numbers.

“Why don’t we love the product we developed? Why aren’t we using it non-stop?” Vishal Shah, vice president of Meta Meta Universe, wrote in the memo, “The truth is simple: if you don’t like it yourself, how can you expect users to like it?”

After previously breaking news that a Meta Quest Pro high-end VR headset was on the way, available intel reveals more details about next year’s Meta Quest 3 VR.

YouTuber @Brad Lynch previously revealed key details about the Meta Quest Pro, and now he’s brought some more details about the Meta Quest 3 VR headset.

It’s said to be a more expensive, more powerful wireless VR headset, cheaper than the Pro and entry-level in terms of features. But that doesn’t mean it’s the same as the Meta Quest 2. One of the biggest changes is a lens called a pancake lens.

These lenses are thinner and lighter, so it’s better for long gaming sessions, while potentially reducing the overall weight of the headset.

Unlike the Pico 4 VR headset, the headset’s battery still appears to be located in the visor, so it may still be a little heavy. Unlike the previous Meta Quest, the IPD slider is expected to return in Meta Quest 3, which will provide a more comfortable experience for players.

The headset will reportedly use the yet-to-be-released Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 chip, which is likely to be more power efficient than the previous generation Meta Quest.

However, unlike the Meta Quest Pro, the Meta Quest 3 does not have any form of the face or eye tracking, so there is a large experience gap between it and the Pro.

The upcoming Meta Quest Pro has been revealed by a gaming anchor on Facebook, the device comes in a box with the name Meta Quest Pro and the words “not for resale – engineering samples”, and the VR headset has three cameras on the front.

Meta will be holding its annual VR conference, Connect, on October 11, and we can expect to see the Meta Quest Pro, a high-end VR headset, being released.

Researchers at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston have published a study showing that patients wearing VR headsets need less anesthetic during hand surgery, MIT News reports.

Conventional patients required an average of 750.6 mg of the sedative propofol per hour, while those who watched relaxing VR content such as meditation, nature scenes and videos required only 125.3 mg. In addition, patients wearing VR headsets also recovered sooner, leaving the post-anesthesia ward after an average of 63 minutes, compared with 75 minutes for regular patients.

The researchers claim that VR distracted patients from pain, yet they also acknowledge that the headset wearers entered the operating room already expecting VR to help, which may have skewed the results of the experiment.

▼ A is a scene from the surgery experiment and B is a VR screen

However, the team at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center is planning to rule out this comforting effect. A follow-up trial will also evaluate the effects of VR on those undergoing hip and knee surgery. Past experiments, such as those at St. Joseph’s Hospital in France, have shown that the technology can indeed help ease patients’ moods.
