Mark Zuckerberg urges Meta to push virtual reality meetings internally

Meta Platforms CEO Mark Zuckerberg is reportedly urging internal teams to organize and attend virtual reality sessions, even though many of the company’s employees don’t yet have virtual reality (VR) headsets.

People familiar with the matter said Mark Zuckerberg asked employees this year to hold meetings in Meta’s Horizon Workrooms application to hold meetings. With this application, people can hold meetings in various virtual office spaces by means of avatars.
Meta, formerly known as Facebook, officially changed its name last year. The company launched Horizon Workrooms in 2021. must have Meta Quest 2 virtual reality headset in order to use Horizon Workrooms.

Many Meta employees have not purchased virtual reality headsets until this year, or have not had time to configure them, people familiar with the matter said. If the company insists on requiring them to attend virtual reality meetings, they will have to rush to buy and register the Meta Quest 2 headset.

Meta raised the price of the Quest 2 headset this August from $299 to $399. The Quest 2 was originally called the Oculus Quest 2 when it was released in 2020, but Meta renamed it the Meta Quest 2 the following year.

Andy Stone, a spokesman for the company, said it’s easy to be “skeptical of innovative technology,” but much harder to create it.

Stone said, “We’re in charge of creating it now because we believe the metaverse is the future of computing.”

The information comes from anonymous interviews with dozens of current and former Meta employees, as well as internal communication documents. Two of the employees revealed that some Meta employees believed the metaverse project was merely “pleasing Za.

Internal memos previously obtained by the media showed that Meta employees were not using the Horizon Worlds app in sufficient numbers.

“Why don’t we love the product we developed? Why aren’t we using it non-stop?” Vishal Shah, vice president of Meta Meta Universe, wrote in the memo, “The truth is simple: if you don’t like it yourself, how can you expect users to like it?”
