Sony PS5 game console today pushed the firmware 23.02-08.20.02 update, from the last firmware update only less than half a month.

Sony briefly described that firmware 23.02-08.20.02 mainly “improved system performance”, the size of 851.3MB. and the last 23.02-08-20.00 system update mainly improved the control center music function and PS VR 2 experience.

However, considering that the last firmware update was 23.02-08-20.00, which is basically the same version number as this update, it’s likely that Sony has released this update to fix a critical system vulnerability in order to prevent it from being cracked.

▲ Sony previously pushed out the 23.02-08-20.00 system update.

The detachable optical drive version of the PS5 game console was officially released today. The machine has been upgraded to 1TB of internal storage and will be available in November.

According to information obtained by IGN, a PlayStation spokesperson said via email that “nothing has changed with the new model” when it comes to storage expansion, meaning players can still manually remove the cover and install additional SSDs themselves.

The previous original PS5 came with 825GB of internal storage, of which only 667GB was usable. The new version has been upgraded to 1TB, making it easier for players to place more games. However, for current AAA masterpieces that often weigh hundreds of GB, 1TB cannot hold a few games.

According to Sony officials, the PS5 game console supports additional SSD storage expansion of up to 8TB, but there are performance requirements. An M.2 SSD with PCIe 4.0 and above must be used, and a read speed of at least 5500MB/s is required.

Sony’s new PS5 also brings a smaller size and lighter weight.

According to Cyber SecurityConnect, a hacker group called “Randomed.vc” claimed to have “invaded all Sony systems” and will be packed and sold within this week because “Sony refuses to negotiate” All data.

Now, Sony has responded to IGN saying that they have opened a formal investigation into the matter. “We are currently investigating the matter and have no further comment at this time.”

Sony’s consumer-facing services are still running normally, including PSN and Sony customer service, and there have been no large-scale interruptions recently.

Cyber Security Connect said the new group, which emerged only last month, “has already attacked a large number of victims.” They claimed that “we have successfully compromised all of Sony’s systems, we will not blackmail them, we will sell the data, because Sony is unwilling to pay, the data is currently available for sale.”

In addition, the group also released some evidence of breaching Sony systems, but this information “does not appear to be particularly convincing on its face”, including what appears to be an internal login page, an internal PowerPoint presentation, several Java files and A screenshot of the leaked file tree, which appears to contain less than 6,000 files.

The Randomed.vc group has also threatened to make all the hacked data available online if a buyer is not found by September 28, although they have not disclosed a price.

In fact, Sony’s PlayStation Network suffered a massive breach in 2011 that exposed the personal information of approximately 77 million accounts and disrupted PSN services for 23 days.
