The detachable optical drive version of the PS5 game console was officially released today. The machine has been upgraded to 1TB of internal storage and will be available in November.
According to information obtained by IGN, a PlayStation spokesperson said via email that “nothing has changed with the new model” when it comes to storage expansion, meaning players can still manually remove the cover and install additional SSDs themselves.
The previous original PS5 came with 825GB of internal storage, of which only 667GB was usable. The new version has been upgraded to 1TB, making it easier for players to place more games. However, for current AAA masterpieces that often weigh hundreds of GB, 1TB cannot hold a few games.

According to Sony officials, the PS5 game console supports additional SSD storage expansion of up to 8TB, but there are performance requirements. An M.2 SSD with PCIe 4.0 and above must be used, and a read speed of at least 5500MB/s is required.
Sony’s new PS5 also brings a smaller size and lighter weight.
