After launching the Nothing Ear (1), Carl Pei’s gadget manufacturing company went on to launch their first smartphone, the Nothing Phone (1). This device just like the wireless earphones before came with a transparent design but added on what Nothing calls a glyph interface. The rear glass panel of the Nothing Phone (1) is transparent, hence displaying a bit of the device’s well-cutout interior.

As for the glyph interface, these are light patterns on the rear of the device that light up according to the user’s programming. The lighting pattern of these lights can be set and adjusted directly from the device via the built-in software controls. You can check out more about the Nothing Phone (1) in this article.

Smartphone design is always evolving, but ZTE seems to be ahead of the competition with their Axon 40 Ultra. The under-display selfie camera sensor of this device makes it worthy of being on our best innovative smartphones of the 2022 list. Unlike other devices in the market, the ZTE Axon 40 Ultra has a 6.8-inch uninterrupted screen display.

There is no visible cutout on the screen to show the selfie camera, so users can enjoy an uninterrupted viewing experience. The overall design of the smartphone is also neat and impressive, but its standout feature remains the under-display selfie camera sensor. Check the full specifications of the ZTE Axon 40 Ultra in this article.

OPPO Find N

OPPO Find N

This is the first foldable smartphone from Chinese smartphone maker, OPPO, and the design is also one of a kind. Unlike other foldable, OPPO took a different approach to the design of the Find N, their first foldable device. This device is shorter than other foldable devices like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4, the Honor Magic Vs, and the Vivo Fold+.

The OPPO Find N’s short profile makes it a compact foldable device, hence improving usability when folded and unfolded. Due to its design, the Find N unfolds into a rectangle unlike other foldable devices hence making it the better choice for media consumption. Recent leaks have also shown that the coming successor to this device will have a similar design language.

iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max

iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max

With the launch of the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max, Apple took a new path with the design on the screen of these devices. All other Apple Pro series before this three generations (the X series making it four) all came with the notches. But with the launch of the iPhone 14 Pro series, Apple introduced what they call the Dynamic Island with its software integrations.

This “island” replaces the notch with a pill cutout and blends in some software features to the outspoken pill cutout. The pill not only houses the selfie camera and other sensors but also doubles as a notification display panel when tapped. Certainly, this innovative design shows Apple’s creativity, check out more information on the iPhone 14 Pro series in this article.

All devices above bring something interesting to the smartphone world in terms of their design. These are the best innovative smartphones of 2022 with the Nothing Phone (1) coming with the most impressive design. With the launch of new devices, we will welcome new design languages across a wide variety of smartphones some of which will be amazing.

Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 to arrive with improved hinge https://www.techgoing.com/xiaomi-mix-fold-2-to-improve-on-its-hinge/ Fri, 22 Apr 2022 09:28:03 +0000 https://www.techgoing.com/?p=876 Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 is an upcoming foldable device to the Xiaomi Mix lineup. What improvements will it make to the already existing Xiaomi Mix Fold?

The post Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 to arrive with improved hinge appeared first on TechGoing.

]]>

The Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 will launch in the second half of this year, and it’ll feature a few changes from the last Mix Fold model. The Xiaomi Mix Fold was launched on the 16th of April 2021, and it came into the foldable market in direct competition with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 and the likes. This device debuted as the first foldable device from Xiaomi.

Xiaomi’s debut foldable device has an 8.1 inch foldable AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate. The cover display is 6.7 inches with a 27:9 aspect ratio. The battery on the Xiaomi Mix Fold is 5020mAh which gives the device some width. The processor on this device is the Snapdragon 888, and it ran Android 10 out of the box. These mentioned specs are just a few of which the Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 will improve on at its launch.

Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 key specifications (rumored)

The battery on the upcoming Xiaomi Mix Fold will be smaller than that seen on the previous model. This reduction in battery size will make the Mix Fold 2 a slimmer device and also reduce its weight to come to par with the foldable competition. There will also be a notable improvement in the hinge to help make the device fold smoothly and quickly, hence giving it a snappy feel. The kind of hinge to be used is not yet known, but it’ll be lovely to see a hinge similar to that on the OPPO Find N or the Huawei Mate X2. The hinge as seen on these two foldable eliminates the presence of a crease in the folding half of the devices.

The Mix Fold 2 is codenamed “zizhan” and will use a process from the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 series. The size of the screen when folded and unfolded will be similar to the previous Mix Fold. There might also be a bidirectional folding mechanism on the Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 which will possibly enable the device to fold in two ways. Information regarding the pricing and availability of this device will be covered once available in a different article.

We covered the Vivo X80 Series in this article where we talked about its launch date, and today we have more information about the yet to be released device. Today Vivo held an official warm-up for the phone and during this event more was disclosed about the device’s photography abilities. The device will use the Sony IMX866 RGBW outsole sensor, making it the first smartphone to make use of this sensor. Vivo will continue its partnership with ZEISS on the development of the camera system for this device.

Sony IMX866

The Vivo X80 Series camera will be able to accept more light thanks to the 16:11 1/1.49-inch lens. This will make the Vivo X80 series a top player in low light photography. Vivo’s signature micro-gimbal camera system will also be used on this device. So, users can be sure of a shake-free smartphone photography experience. In terms of camera, the Vivo X80 Series will use a triple camera setup with a 50MP Sony IMX866 RGBW outsole sensor, a 12MP ultrawide camera, and a 12MP portrait camera. The camera configuration might be different on the Vivo X80 Pro and use another sensor other than that we’ll see on the Vivo X80.

The X80 Pro will also use the MediaTek Dimensity 9000 flagship chipset. The Dimensity 9000 is the first chip to use the TSMC N4 (4nm-class) production process, plus it is also a 5G powered processor. This processor has secured a total score of over 1,072,221 points, the MediaTek Dimensity 9000 is a powerful chip. We look forward to how it’ll perform when paired with Vivo X80 Pro.

Apple Might Have To Settle For Type-C Charger After All https://www.techgoing.com/apple-might-have-to-settle-for-type-c-charger-after-all/ Thu, 21 Apr 2022 01:42:04 +0000 https://www.techgoing.com/?p=678 The European Union parliament's decision to use a universal Type-C charger will take a deep bite on Apple and its age long lightening cable.

The post Apple Might Have To Settle For Type-C Charger After All appeared first on TechGoing.

]]>

For a long time, the European Union has been pushing for smartphone makers to use a universal charger, the Type-C charger. Officials in the European Union have voted to support this move, this puts Apple in a tight corner. The votes passed by the members of the European Parliament were 43 to 2 in favour of the party adopting Type-C as a universal charger.

For years now, Apple has been the odd one out in terms of the type of chargers used to power devices. Whilst other smartphone manufacturers stick to Type-C Chargers, Apple has picked lightning cables. Now, lightning cables being the choice for powering Apple devices only applies to the iPhones. Other Apple devices such as the iPad, MacBooks, and so on all use the Type-C charger. Despite being different, Apple has not made any move to switch to Type-C chargers for its iPhones. But all of that might be coming to an end. Asides from Apple’s desire to be exclusive, what other reasons are there to make smartphone manufacturers accept a universal charger?

The amount of waste generated from having devices that use different chargers is on the rise. Alex Agius Saliba from the European Union said regarding the usage of a universal charger that “It will help protect the environment, further aid the reuse of old electronics, save money, and reduce unnecessary costs and inconveniences for businesses and consumers.” Taking further steps regarding this move will push Apple to the edge of its seat. How will Apple accept this move by the European Union?

This advancement will do other smartphone manufacturers in China and other parts of the world no harm. This is because most if not all smartphone manufacturers except Apple use Type-C chargers to power all their devices.

OnePlus Ace

OPPO’s sister company has been building the hype for the OnePlus Ace, and there are so many things that make this device stand out. Just like we saw on the OnePlus 10 Pro, the company has taken a different approach to the design of its smartphones. The new entry into the OnePlus family to be launched today also features a new design language. With what OnePlus calls a “right-angle frame design” the OnePlus Ace is unlike anything we have ever seen from the company.

Powering this device is the MediaTek Dimensity 8100-MAX, and this device is the first in the world to make use of this mobile processor. There is no intel out yet on the storage configuration available on this device, but we can be sure that it’ll have enough RAM and ROM to suit the user’s needs.

Regarding cameras, the Ace has a big eye 50MP Sony IMX766 main camera, which is paired with two other camera sensors. The other two cameras present might be an 8MP wide-angle camera and a 2MP depth sensor or macro camera. There is availability for OIS to help enhance the stabilization of the camera when taking pictures.

Upfront, the OnePlus Ace has a 6.7” OLED display with a punch-hole camera. The charging speed on the device is also very impressive as it comes bundled with a 150W facts charger. There is currently no word on the pricing and availability of this device, but this information will be decimated during the launch event late during the day.

The Ace has a lot of features that make it stand out from the crowd. But how will it perform against the active competition in the smartphone industry? Let’s wait to find out.

Xiaomi 12S and 12S Pro Revealed With A New Processor https://www.techgoing.com/xiaomi-12s-and-12s-pro-revealed-with-a-new-processor/ Wed, 20 Apr 2022 22:20:25 +0000 https://www.techgoing.com/?p=668 Xiaomi is now on a device launching spree as it is set to launch the Xiaomi 12S and 12s Pro with a new Snapdragon processor.

The post Xiaomi 12S and 12S Pro Revealed With A New Processor appeared first on TechGoing.

]]>

After the launch of the Xiaomi 12 series, the company is going on to launch the Xiaomi 12S and 12S Pro. This new series coming from Xiaomi will consist of two devices. The full specs and launch date of these devices are not yet out, but we can be sure that they will step up the performance of the 12 series. How can we be so sure of this?

Information gathered on these two devices shows that they will both use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus Chip (SM8475). The Snapdragon chip to be used on these devices is to use the TSMC 4 nm fabrication process. The readily available Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip as seen on most devices already like the Xiaomi 12 series also uses the same TSMC fabrication process. This doesn’t mean that the two chips will have the same abilities, as the Snapdragon 888 and 888+ chips were different when looking at performance.

The Xiaomi 12S and 12S Pro are codenamed diting and unicorn respectively and are targeted for the Chinese region as proven by available intel. At the moment there is no statement as to the specification of the expected devices, but we can be sure that they will be similarly speced with the Xiaomi 12 and 12 Pro. When speaking of camera abilities, the Xiaomi 12 Pro features a triple 50MP camera setup and a 32MP selfie camera. It has a 4600mAh battery that supports fast charging at 120W, fast wireless charging at 50W, and fast reverse-charge at 10W. These few specs of the Xiaomi 12 Pro can and should give us a little insight into what features the Xiaomi 12S and 12S Pro will come bundled with.

The only change to the already existing 12 series devices with these expected devices might be the chips used. We can’t be sure of this yet, but we’ll keep an eye out for more information regarding these devices.

Samsung has been one of the brands that have stuck to the tradition of launching limited edition devices. This will be the second time that Samsung will release a limited edition device for the Galaxy Z Flip 3. The first shot at a Galaxy Z Flip 3 limit edition was bespoken, this helped buyers of the Galaxy Z Flip 3 to pick the colour configuration of their Flip devices. Users who purchase the bespoken edition of the Galaxy Z Flip 3 will be able to pick the colours they desire to appear on either half of the folding back panel.

The just-launched Samsung Z Flip 3 special edition comes with a Pokémon design. It is called the Galaxy Z Flip 3 Pokémon Edition! There is little publicity on this device, with only one official image that shows what the device packaging looks like and all accessories that come with the device. In the large limited edition box comes the Galaxy Z Flip 3 Pokémon Edition alongside a few other accessories. A Pikachu clear case, Pokémon custom satchel, Pikachu keychain, and Pokeball all make up the accessories that are packed with the Galaxy Z Flip 3 Pokémon Edition.

Just like every other limited edition device or custom device, the Galaxy Z Flip 3 Pokémon Edition comes with a software tweaked with a lot of Pokémon-related kinds of stuff. Custom ringtone, themes and wallpapers, will be available on the Galaxy Z Flip 3 Pokémon Edition. There are no changes in the specs of the device, the only change to the device is the Pokémon customizations. There might also be a change in the pricing of this limited edition device, but at the moment there is no price available.

This device is already available on the Samsung South Korean website. Whether this device will be available in other regions other than the location of its launch is unknown. We will await further information regarding price and availability at the launch of this device by the weekend.

The Xiaomi Civi 1S is the successor to the Civi 1 launched on the 27th of October 2021. In less than a year, Xiaomi is prepared to launch another entry into the Civi line. What are we expecting from the device?

The Xiaomi Civi 1S will be launched on April 21 a few days before the launch of the Vivo X80 series. Just like its predecessor, the Xiaomi Civi 1S will be a budget device. From released press images, there would not be a lot of changes to the design of the Civi 1S, most of the changes will be internal. The Xiaomi Civi 1S will stick to the slim profile as seen with the Civi 1, it will be 6.9 mm thick, making it a ridiculously thin device to use. Not only will it spot a sleek body, but it is also a very light device to use, weighing around 166g. It’ll pack a similar battery size to the Civi 1 at 4500mAh, but there will be an improvement in charging speed, the previous model supports a 55W charging speed this will be improved to 64W charging speed on the Civi 1S.

There will be an improvement in processing power, the Civi 1S will use the Snapdragon 778G+ processor, making it the first device from Xiaomi to spot this processor. We will also see a similar storage configuration to last year’s Civi model, with 8GB and 12GB RAM variants. There will also be a new colour variant on the Civi 1S, something related to the sun that “brings light.”

At launch, this device will be going head-to-head with already existing devices like the Xiaomi 12 Lite, Realme 9 and the OnePlus Nord CE2 5G. How will the Xiaomi Civi 1S stand against the competition? We just have to wait to find out!
