Microsoft’s Edge browser is becoming more and more feature-rich, and the latest Edge Canary update brings a new hidden feature that can improve user interaction with website images.

The feature, called “Magnify image,” allows users to right-click on any image and preview it in a larger window without leaving the current tab. In addition to enlarging the image, the feature can also display its alt text or short description.

Users can force enable it by modifying the Edge Canary shortcut using commands. A tutorial on how to enable it has been attached:

Update Microsoft Edge Canary browser to 120.0.2198 or higher.

Right-click the Edge Canary shortcut and select Properties.

Click the Target input box, add a space after the path, and then add the following command:

–enable-features=msEdgeImageMagnifyUI

Click "OK" in the properties window to save changes.

Open Edge Canary's Settings > System & Performance and turn off Startup Enhancements. If this feature is turned off, you can skip this step.
Close the browser and launch Edge Canary again with the modified shortcut.

Jump to a web page at will, then right-click the image and click "Magnify image".

It’s worth noting that Google is working on a similar feature for Chrome. Unlike Edge, Chrome allows previewing links in a small window, similar to Apple’s macOS feature of long-pressing a link to preview its content.

Microsoft is inviting Android Beta members to test the new version of the Edge browser, which focuses on the introduction of the Copilot function. The new tab button at the bottom has been replaced with “Microsoft Copilot”.

When users use the Edge browser, after clicking the Copilot button, they will see a floating dialog window, where they can ask AI to summarize the main content of the current page.

This function is more friendly to users who often browse long articles on mobile phones. It can generate summaries by AI, allowing users to understand the main content faster and more conveniently.

The Android version of the Edge browser also introduces the PDF Copilot function, which can generate summaries when users read PDF files.

Attached is a case as follows based on the article. If you want to read a long report on finance, you can request a short version containing the main content.

When the user clicks “Learn about updates” in the prompt window, the browser will jump to the “Apps and Widgets Relying on Microsoft Edge” support page created on August 7, 2023. The previous user uninstallation page is as follows:

The official description is as follows:

Microsoft Edge is more than just a web browser. It’s also a platform that powers many of the apps and widgets you use every day, such as Microsoft News, Weather, Calendar, and more. These apps and widgets are designed to work seamlessly with Microsoft Edge and give you a rich and personalized experience.

Apps and widgets that rely on Microsoft Edge are web-based applications that run on the Microsoft Edge engine. Microsoft’s Edge browser has a split screen function that allows you to put two web pages in one window, such as reading two articles at the same time.

And Microsoft is developing a new way to invoke the split-screen feature. The recent Canary version of the Edge browser introduced drag-and-drop split-screen support, similar to how you use the Snap feature to arrange Windows apps.

However, this function needs to be turned on by using a special command to modify the shortcut. Attached a tutorial on how to turn it on:

Right-click the Microsoft Edge Canary shortcut and select Properties.

Click the Target field, add a space after the original content, and enter the following:

–enable features=msEdgeSplitWindowDragAndDrop

 Click OK to save changes.

Launch Microsoft Edge Canary with a modified shortcut.

Open two tabs and drag one to the right side of the window to start Split Screen.

It’s worth noting that the current split-screen implementation only works when dragging a tab to the right, and only works in a side-by-side horizontal view of pages, so it’s not yet fully functional.
