Deep operating system Deepin v23 Beta announced that it has officially adopted WSL.

WSL is the abbreviation of Windows Subsystem for Linux, which is a technology that allows users to run Linux on Windows.

WSLg includes a Wayland server, an RDP client, and a PulseAudio server to support graphics, audio, and input devices. wslg lets users run Linux GUI applications in WSL2 and seamlessly integrates into the Windows desktop. wslg is also available in a new version of WSL2, WSLg is a new version of WSL2, WSLg is a new version of WSL2, WSLg, and WSLg.

Deep Terminal

deepin chose the WSL2-based adaptation solution. As WSL2 has WSLg extension, it can improve the performance and enhance the compatibility of system calls; the debootstrap tool is used to make the root filesystem, so that a basic Debian system can be generated quickly, and the users can install the deepin’s self-developed applications by themselves.

Because WSLg uses Weston instead of deepin’s KWin as the window manager, when using deepin graphical applications, you may encounter some problems that are different from the native Linux desktop environment, such as:

Unusual placement of settings options after installing the platform plugin

Redundant title bars and borders

Application display anomalies

At present, deepin WSL is still in the testing stage, and there may be some problems or deficiencies in performance, compatibility and stability.

deepin WSL installation tutorial:

Extract the downloaded deepin.zip and open the terminal in the extracted folder. Run the command:. /deepin.exe install deepin-rootfs.tar and wait for the installation to complete. When the installation is complete, an ext4 file will appear.

Check the installed WSL with the command "wsl -l".
Run WSL ". /deepin.exe" or "wsl -d deepin" to set the default WSL command to wsl -s deepin, and then you can enter WSL directly.

After completing the installation of deepin WSL apps, boot up again and the registered installed deepin apps will be displayed under the Windows menu bar.

The Deepin RISC-V SIG group has successfully adapted the Deepin operating system to the RISC-V server card, the SG2042.

As a 64-core 2.0GHz server card, the SG2042 is a high-performance RISC-V processor with 64MB of L3 shared cache. This successful adaptation is the key to the progress deep into for RISC-V ecosystem.

Deepin OS was officially adapted to RISC-V in V23 Alpha last November. Deepin achieved the core goal of adapting the DDE desktop environment on the RISC-V platform in stage1, and successfully adapted Ali’s Trailing Shadow 1520 platform and StarFive VisionFive V1 boards. At the same time, with the full support of PLCT and Dragon Lizard RISC-V SIG group, the repository package has completed 6511 package adaptations by source code.

This time, the adaptation of the SG2042 server card is done on the basis of stage 1. deep in for RISC-V architecture SG2042 card experience image is developed based on deepin in V23 version, which is equipped with the DDE desktop environment by default, adopts vendor firmware and kernel branch, integrates deep in self-developed application modules, verifies the base system, wired network, USB interface, PC interface, and the kernel. It is verified that the basic system, wired network, USB interface, PCIE and other basic components can be used smoothly, and HDMI can be displayed normally. At present, the repository dependency tree has been improved, and some third-party application packages have been added. The repository provides Deepin’s self-developed applications and common community software and development tools, which can support common office and development work.

In the future, Deepin for RISC-V will continue to fix defects and improve system stability, while continuing to improve the software and hardware ecology and provide lingering package support. In addition to x86_64, the main line will gradually provide support for RISC-V and ARM architectures.

August 2, deep OS will be officially released in August 2022 across the upstream, cross-end collaboration of the new version — deepin 23 Preview. today, the official introduction of the version of the heavyweight improvements — the The “lingering” package format.

According to the introduction, “Linglong” is the open source package format developed by Unisys, which is used to realize the functions of application package management, distribution, sandboxing and integrated development tools together with package management system such as dpkg rpm, with the goal of solving the long-standing dependency problem and security problem of Linux.

The name “Linglong” is taken from the Eight Treasure Linglong Tower, which claims to integrate the ideas of “isolation” and “layering” and has six features.

First, it will be for any linux distribution, only need to build once, can run in any linux distribution desktop environment; Second, it provides a simple and small version of the “LINGUIN”.

Second, it provides a simple and small build tool that is easy to use.

Third, it has a stable and independent runtime environment, which provides a stable and compatible runtime, and the application can control its own dependencies and system independence.

Fourth, it contains a sandbox container for security isolation, and the Linglong application runs in an independent sandbox environment, isolated from the host, which is safe and stable.

Fifth, it has a perfect permission control mechanism, dedicated to protecting user privacy.

Sixth, it also supports incremental updates of applications.

At present, the official website of “Linglong” has been launched, with detailed installation and usage instructions.

In May this year, in the system root community deepin online launch, Unisys announced that it would build a China-based, global desktop OS root community based on the deepin community to create the root system of China’s desktop OS. deepin V23 version will have a non-dependent package format, modern graphics development libraries and support for next-generation graphics display protocols. It supports atomic updates and forms a new version that crosses upstream and cross-end collaboration.

At present, deepin V23 Preview has been opened to experience the program.

This afternoon, deepin community official administrator posted that the deep community will be officially released in August 2022 across the upstream, cross-end collaboration of the new version — deepin 23 Preview.

The official said, deepin 23 preview version, will be across the upstream Debian community based on the root community concept to create a root operating system, is a collection of community open source power, contains a lot of innovative technology of a new generation of operating system products. The release is expected to be built from the linux kernel and other open source components, without relying on upstream distributions, providing basic services and roots for the gradual establishment of independent upstream.

Officials say that the preview release is related to the lingering package format, atomic updates, and independent upstream. Officials will introduce these features starting today.

In May this year, at the system root community deepin online launch, TUNIS Software announced that it would build a China-based and global desktop OS root community based on the deep (deepin) community to create the root system of China’s desktop OS. deepin V23 version will be the one with non-dependent package format, modern graphics development library and support for V23 will be a new version with non-dependent package format, modern graphics development library and support for next-generation graphics display protocols, and support for atomic updates, forming a new version that spans upstream and cross-end collaboration.
