Deep OS deepin v23 Beta officially adapts to WSL

Deep operating system Deepin v23 Beta announced that it has officially adopted WSL.

WSL is the abbreviation of Windows Subsystem for Linux, which is a technology that allows users to run Linux on Windows.

WSLg includes a Wayland server, an RDP client, and a PulseAudio server to support graphics, audio, and input devices. wslg lets users run Linux GUI applications in WSL2 and seamlessly integrates into the Windows desktop. wslg is also available in a new version of WSL2, WSLg is a new version of WSL2, WSLg is a new version of WSL2, WSLg, and WSLg.

deepin chose the WSL2-based adaptation solution. As WSL2 has WSLg extension, it can improve the performance and enhance the compatibility of system calls; the debootstrap tool is used to make the root filesystem, so that a basic Debian system can be generated quickly, and the users can install the deepin’s self-developed applications by themselves.

Because WSLg uses Weston instead of deepin’s KWin as the window manager, when using deepin graphical applications, you may encounter some problems that are different from the native Linux desktop environment, such as:

Unusual placement of settings options after installing the platform plugin

Redundant title bars and borders

Application display anomalies

At present, deepin WSL is still in the testing stage, and there may be some problems or deficiencies in performance, compatibility and stability.

deepin WSL installation tutorial:

Extract the downloaded deepin.zip and open the terminal in the extracted folder. Run the command:. /deepin.exe install deepin-rootfs.tar and wait for the installation to complete. When the installation is complete, an ext4 file will appear.

Check the installed WSL with the command "wsl -l".

Run WSL ". /deepin.exe" or "wsl -d deepin" to set the default WSL command to wsl -s deepin, and then you can enter WSL directly.

After completing the installation of deepin WSL apps, boot up again and the registered installed deepin apps will be displayed under the Windows menu bar.
