OpenAI announced on Thursday local time that the company is forming a new team to reduce the “catastrophic risks” related to AI and will track, assess, predict and analyze major issues that may be caused by AI. Protect.

OpenAI said, “We are convinced that the capabilities of cutting-edge AI models will exceed the current state-of-the-art existing models and may benefit all mankind, but they also bring increasingly serious risks.” The team will work to mitigate nuclear threats, biological, chemical and radioactive threats and other major risks that may be caused by AI, as well as potential risks brought about by behaviours such as AI “self-replication”.

OpenAI says companies need to ensure they have the understanding and infrastructure needed to secure highly capable AI systems. The team will be led by Aleksander Madry, formerly director of MIT’s Center for Deployable Machine Learning, and will develop and maintain a “risk-informed development policy” outlining the company’s efforts to evaluate and monitor large AI models.

The non-profit AI Security Center issued a brief statement at the end of last month: “Reducing the risk of extinction caused by artificial intelligence will be placed at the same level as social issues such as epidemics and nuclear war, and promoted as a global priority.” , this 22-word initiative has been supported by many AI industry leaders, including OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.

According to Reuters, Andreas Mundt, head of the Cartel Office of the German antitrust regulator, warned that AI may enhance the market power of large technology companies and regulators should be wary of any anti-competitive behaviour.

Mundt highlighted regulators’ concerns that tech giants with vast troves of user data could gain a competitive advantage in new technologies used in smart homes, web searches, online advertising, cars and many other products and services.

“It is crucial for competition authorities that this new technology does not further strengthen the dominance of large companies,” Mundt told Reuters in an interview. “The danger is very high because AI first requires two Things: powerful servers and lots of data. Big Internet companies have both.”

Google and Microsoft are competitors in the field of artificial intelligence. The former has developed the Bard AI chat robot, etc., and the latter has invested heavily in OpenAI.

According to Bloomberg reported yesterday evening, JP Morgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon in yesterday’s interview with Bloomberg TV talked about their views on AI.

Thanks to technology, your kids will live to be 100 and won't get cancer. And, in fact, they may only have to work three and a half days a week.

Jamie Dimon also said that AI is “key to the future success” of his company. According to him, AI can be used to help companies develop new products, drive customer engagement, improve productivity and enhance risk management. Thousands of employees at his bank are already using AI, and it will “dramatically improve” the quality of life for employees, even if some jobs may be eliminated.

But he also mentioned concerns about AI. “Technology has done incredible things for humanity, but, you know, airplane crashes, drug abuse, there are negative impacts, and the biggest negative impact of AI, in my opinion, is that it’s being used by bad people to do bad things.”

Earlier, Jamie Dimon also devoted “an entire chapter” to AI in JPMorgan’s shareholder letter this year, and claimed that JPMorgan’s efforts in AI are absolutely necessary.

Wall Street Journal, citing sources familiar with the matter, said JPMorgan Chase had restricted the use of ChatGPT employees, the source said, JPMorgan Chase is not because of any specific incident to limit the use of ChatGPT employees, but reflects the normal control of third-party software. It has not been possible to determine how many of the company’s employees are using ChatGPT or for what purpose.

As CNBC reported in May, JPMorgan was developing an AI chatbot product similar to ChatGPT that would rely on “disruptive” AI to select investments for clients. According to its filing with the Bank of New York, the firm applied for a trademark called IndexGPT, which will use “cloud computing software using AI” to “analyze and select securities that meet the needs of customers.

According to Josh Gerben, a trademark agent in Washington, D.C., JPMorgan could be the first financial firm to release a GPT-like product directly to clients.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai sent an email to all employees on Tuesday, local time, explaining the company’s rush to release artificial intelligence products. He claimed that it reflected the “momentum” within the company.

In the email, Pichai describes a series of new announcements and products that will be unveiled at the annual CloudNext conference, which kicks off this week.

Pichai also highlights other changes within the company, such as YouTube’s partnership with the music industry to develop principles for generative artificial intelligence.

In an email, Pichai wrote, “I see progress everywhere I look at Google.”

Google was shaken by the emergence of OpenAI’s ChatGPT at the end of last year and has since developed and launched generative AI products, including its Bard chatbot, at a breakneck pace.

In April, Google announced that it was merging one of its key AI research teams with DeepMind, which is developing a new AI model called Gemini that could pose a threat to OpenAI.

In the email, Pichai also revealed a new hardware product that will be launched “in a few months”.

Google declined to comment.

Here’s the full text of the email:

Hello everyone!

We've got an exciting week ahead of us, and there's a lot of excitement across the company about new product announcements.

This morning at our Cloud Next conference, we shared how we're helping Google Cloud customers leverage artificial intelligence to solve problems and carry out new ways of doing things. We're not only using the latest generative AI technology in our own products, but we're also making it available to businesses and developers. Tens of thousands of developers have used more than 100 models in VertexAI, Google Cloud's platform for building generative AI applications. Now, we're extending VertexAI's capabilities to enable customers to customize, integrate, and deeply deploy the underlying models into applications.

We also shared some news about Duet AI, our intelligent AI collaboration partner that helps you get work done efficiently in Workspace and GoogleCloud. More than a million people have already tested DuetAI in Workspace for writing emails and documents, creating custom forms, and generating images in slideshows. Thanks to their feedback, we've been able to quickly improve the product since its release at I/O. DuetAI is now fully available in Workspace, and the preview version in GoogleCloud has been expanded and integrated with more products and services. It can now help organizations code at a professional level, build and extract database information, and even become a cybersecurity consultant. You guys can watch the keynote at Go / Cloudnext23 to learn more about all the announcements at the CloudNext conference.

Google Cloud has had a huge impact on many people and organizations. Through hard work and thoughtful investment by the team, ThomasKurian, Google Cloud CEO, and his team have built Google Cloud into a true industry leader, and we're just getting started.

I see this progress everywhere within Google: from the research teams at Google Research and GoogleDeepMind, to our latest efforts to improve the search generation experience with new inline definitions, AI-powered overviews, and lower latency, making it easier for people to find and understand information from the web. Since expanding Bard to more countries and languages last month, we've received more helpful feedback. I've also personally found the image questioning feature integrated with GoogleLens to be very useful. On the YouTube side, the team is working with the music industry to develop AI features that support creative expression. And in a few months, our Devices and Services team will be launching our newest product. This momentum is the result of hard work by teams across the company, thank you all!

Next month, we'll celebrate Google's 25th anniversary. It's inspiring to see Google employees continuing the optimism, ambition, and speed of the early days, and continuing to do important work. Looking forward to celebrating this milestone in our birthday month, and to the important work that awaits us.

Sandal.

The IBM Institute for Business Value released a new research report last week, mentioning the impact of generative AI on humans. The findings suggest that people need not fear the impact of AI, but rather use AI to their own benefit.

This study conducted a survey on 3,000 C-level executives (Note: Refers to chief positions, such as CEO CEO, Chief Financial Officer CFO, etc.) and 21,000 employees from 22 countries and regions in 28 countries and regions. The results showed that there was “no doubt” AI would bring changes to the workforce and businesses, but it was “not necessarily a bad thing”.

Executives surveyed estimate that 40 percent of their workforce will need to be reskilled with, or in conjunction with, AI within the next three years. Meanwhile, 87 percent of executives expect generative AI to “augment” rather than “replace” their roles.

At the same time, employees who successfully reskilled (with AI) to adapt to technology-driven job changes saw 15% higher earnings growth than their peers, and those who embraced AI more actively saw 36% higher earnings growth than their peers.

IBM concluded in the report that AI will not replace humans, but those who use AI will replace those who do not.

The technology has been tested at three locations, successfully capturing sounds and images of various animals, which are analyzed and localized by computers. Dozens of different bird species were identified from their calls, and animals ranging from foxes to deer to hedgehogs to bats were also accurately identified without the involvement of human observers.

Anthony Danser, a conservation expert at the Zoological Society of London (ZSL), said, “We have collected tens of thousands of data files and thousands of hours of audio from these test sites, and we have found a variety of animals. If we use human observers, we cannot Doing this at this scale is only possible with artificial intelligence.”

It is noticed that the project selected three test locations next to the railway, namely Barnes, Twickenham and Lewisham in London. The areas are owned by Network Rail, which has played a major role in the project. These areas are fenced to keep people from straying onto the tracks, and maintenance crews rarely enter. British Rail owns more than 52,000 hectares, many of which play an important role in protecting the country’s biodiversity.

ZSL and British Rail plan to expand the use of AI monitors to other areas, including Chobham and the New Forest in Surrey. “At the sites we’ve tested, we’ve found more than 30 species of birds and six species of bats, as well as signs of animals such as foxes and hedgehogs, so we were pleasantly surprised by the relatively healthy level of wildlife found in London,” Danser said “However, this was not the main aim of our project. Our aim was to demonstrate that AI-led techniques, combining acoustic and camera traps, can be effective in surveying wildlife on UK rail lands, but also in other parts of the UK. This will tell us how species respond to climate change, and how we should manage vegetation, not just next to railways, but along road verges and other places.” important.

By analyzing tens of thousands of hours of recordings and hundreds of thousands of pictures, machine learning technology will play a key role in protecting biodiversity and providing more accurate data support.

According to foreign media CNBC reports, BMW said that the company recently deployed artificial intelligence technology at its Spartanburg plant, which it said “can save $1 million per year”.

It is reported that BMW did not disclose the name of the artificial intelligence tool, but simply stated that the tool is “mainly aimed at the company’s production workshop” and can play a role in “optimizing the manufacturing process, improving efficiency, reducing waste and predicting equipment failure”.

The BMW Group said that the body shop has already realized automation based on robotic arms, and each SUV passing the production line needs to use robotic arms to weld 300 to 400 metal studs. BMW said that compared with traditional workers, the robotic arm has higher production efficiency and lower error rate, and the task of AI in the workshop is to detect possible problems during the welding process of the robotic arm, thereby replacing the original special personnel and reducing labor costs.

BMW Group manager Curtis Tingle said in an interview with foreign media that if the AI detects a wrong bolt position, the AI system will automatically tell the robotic arm to fix it. The system allows BMW to remove six workers from the production line, saving the company more than $1 million a year.

BMW also said that the current company has also introduced AI to improve its quality control process. Camille Roberts, the company’s head of IT projects, said 26 cameras installed on the production line floor will take pictures of various parts of the vehicle as it rolls off the assembly line. AI will then analyze the pictures and determine whether there is room for improvement in quality control.

At present, many industries are applying AI to reduce human input in the production line. Although these measures to optimize the manufacturing process are quite beneficial to the company’s profitability, human resources themselves will face the risk of being eliminated.

It was previously reported that some games made using artificial intelligence (AI) technology were banned from distribution on the Steam platform because the developers did not obtain all the necessary copyrights. In response, Valve, the operator of the Steam platform, responded that they are learning and adapting to the application of AI technology in game development, and trying to incorporate it into existing review policies.

In a statement to IGN, Valve stated that they are always committed to publishing as many games as possible, but the introduction of AI technology can sometimes increase the complexity of copyright issues, especially when it comes to the legality of the data used to train AI models. Therefore, they require developers to ensure that they have sufficient rights to distribute the game when submitting the game, including materials such as images, text and music created using AI technology.

Valve also stated that they are aware that AI technology is a growing field and do not want to prevent developers from submitting games with AI-generated content to Steam. Instead, they are working to integrate it with existing moderation policies. They emphasized that their review process reflects current copyright laws and policies and is not their own subjective opinion. As laws and policies change, their review process adjusts accordingly.

Valve also stated that they welcome and encourage innovation and believe that AI technology will bring new and exciting experiences to games. At the same time, they also remind developers to comply with appropriate commercial licensing agreements when using AI technology and not to infringe existing copyrights. Finally, Valve also stated that in the process of refining the review process, if any developer loses the application fee because of submitting a game made with AI technology, they are willing to refund it.
