Samsung U.S. Galaxy Watch 5 pushes firmware update: supports control of camera zoom

0

Samsung recently announced that it will launch an update for the Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 4 that will allow the watch to remotely control the zoom of the paired smartphone camera. Now, the software update is now being pushed in the U.S. for Galaxy Watch 5 watches.

The latest update comes with firmware version R900XXU1AWA3. According to the changelog, the update brings a new camera controller to the Galaxy Watch 5. Now, when users open the camera controller on the smartwatch, it not only displays the phone’s camera preview and allows tapping the shutter button, but also supports controlling the zoom level. Users can zoom by pinching or rotating the (virtual) bezel on the screen.

According to Samsung, the feature will only be available on Galaxy smartphones, which means users will not be able to enable it if they pair the Galaxy Watch 5 with a Google Pixel or OnePlus smartphone.

The latest update is currently only available for the U.S. version of the Galaxy Watch 5, but is expected to be available for the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro, Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic watch devices worldwide in the coming days. Samsung’s Wear OS smartwatches also recently supported the ability to use Google Maps alone.
