Record-breaking! Microsoft Xbox surpasses 120 million monthly active users

Microsoft today released its financial results for the second quarter of the fiscal year 2023, ending December 31, 2022 (note: Microsoft’s fiscal year begins in July each year).

According to the report, Microsoft’s revenue in the second quarter was $52.7 billion (currently about RMB 357.306 billion), up 2% year-on-year. Among them, Xbox content and services revenue fell 12 percent year-on-year, excluding the impact of currency exchange rates fell 8 percent year-on-year.

According to Purexbox, Microsoft’s second quarter fiscal 2023 gaming revenue declined 13 percent year-over-year and Xbox hardware revenue fell 13 percent year-over-year.

Microsoft executive Frank X. Shaw said Xbox Game Pass subscriptions, game streaming hours and monthly active devices all hit new highs, with a record 120 million monthly active users for the quarter.

On Jan. 19, Microsoft announced that it will lay off 10,000 employees by the end of the third quarter of fiscal 2023. The layoffs are said to affect the games division, including Bethesda Game Studios, developer of The Elder Scrolls and Fallout series, and Halo: Infinite developer 343 Industries.
