Microsoft Win11/10 Edge browser is still testing the “sidebar” gadget, adding favorites

Microsoft has been working on a new sidebar for its Chromium-based Edge browser that will become more efficient by constantly iterating on new features. The Microsoft Edge sidebar allows users to access multiple features side-by-side, including Outlook, Office, games and other features.

The Microsoft Edge sidebar is helpful, but many users don’t treat it well and have the option to hide the sidebar. Microsoft is now working on developing a “Favorites” integration for the sidebar.

This will allow Edge users to access their favorite websites directly from the pane. The “Favorites” section will appear alongside the other most commonly used tools, such as unit converters, calculators, and Web applications like Outlook.

With Edge’s new sidebar, users can open their favorite websites at any time. It is also helpful when multiple tabs are open and certain information needs to be accessed at the same time, such as planning a work presentation.

To add a website to the sidebar, users simply click on the “Add tab to sidebar” entry in the tabs context menu.

Users can also add websites to the sidebar from the sidebar itself. To do this, simply click on Customize Sidebar (+) and then click on the new option Add Current Page. A list of added sites can be found at the bottom of the pane.

In the official roadmap, Microsoft describes the Sidebar integration as a new way to access Edge features “side-by-side” with the browsing window. In addition to favorites, users will find features such as Bing search, Office, games and other items such as MSN-powered discovery.

According to the roadmap, the Microsoft Edge sidebar is still in development, but it could start rolling out to some users in August 2022, which means the feature is coming soon.

The next major update to Microsoft Edge is also expected to include new Microsoft Photos-like app integration, where users can crop images, add text, use filters and more before saving them to local storage.
