iCloud password for Windows, starts supporting 2FA two-factor authentication codes

The iCloud Keychain password manager in Apple’s iCloud for Windows app now supports two-factor authentication codes, according to a user report posted on Reddit. Two-factor authentication, or 2FA, acts as an additional layer of security for online accounts, requiring the password manager to generate a code when the account owner logs in.

Apple included support for generating 2FA codes in iCloud Keychain in iOS 15 and macOS Monterey, thus avoiding the need for third-party two-factor authentication applications. It now appears that Apple has brought peer-to-peer functionality to the password manager included in its iCloud for Windows tool, including a self-contained 2FA generator, according to Redditors.

Apple first introduced its iCloud Keychain Password Manager app last August, allowing Windows users to access their iCloud Keychain passwords for cross-device functionality. Apple also added an option in November to let use generate strong passwords in iCloud for Windows.

With the password management option, people running Windows can access their iCloud Keychain passwords and can add, edit, copy and paste, delete, and look up a username or password.

The iCloud Passwords extension for Microsoft Edge and Windows Chrome works with the passwords feature to allow iCloud passwords to auto-populate on Windows machines just like they do in Safari.

iCloud for Windows Passwords is part of iCloud for Windows, and Windows users can download it from the Microsoft Store.
