According to Yonhap News Agency, on March 6, an industry source revealed that Google and Meta have filed a lawsuit against the Korean data protection regulator’s ruling on the fine.

Last September, the Korea Personal Information Protection Commission (PIPC) fined Google and Meta a total of 100 billion won (currently about 531 million yuan) for collecting personal information without users’ consent and using it for personalized online advertising and other purposes.

The PIPC fined Google 69.2 billion won (about RMB 347 million) and Meta 30.8 billion won (about RMB 155 million). Google and Meta objected to the decision at the time, saying the companies placed a high priority on legal compliance and a commitment to user control and transparency.
