Tesla delivers first hardware 4.0 models, but without Autopilot, FSD Beta for the time being

Reddit user @jasondclinton found that Tesla has begun to deliver the 2023 Model S / X equipped with HW 4.0, but because the supporting software is still under development, some functions are still not available, such as AP, TACC, FSD Beta, and even on-screen visualization are not supported. Allegedly, only road markings are visible.

According to reports, these models were produced on February 25th, and technicians said that they had an “AP4” screen, and the radar showed “PHOENIX”. Since the word HW 4.0 was not displayed in the software, he also deliberately took pictures of the new camera and radar.

Additionally, Twitter user @Kilowatts ventured into a Tesla parking lot and snapped photos of the first models equipped with HW 4.0 hardware.

Tesla hacker @Greentheonly previously showed photos and details of HW4, and explained that HW4 will upgrade the 5MP camera, improve data processing capabilities, and bring a new high-definition radar.

According to Green God, HW 4.0 hardware is larger than HW3.0, and the interface is completely different. The previous HW 3.0 models cannot be upgraded, which is also in line with Musk’s previous statement.

Musk has said that the HW4 will not be retrofittable. As long as HW3 remains safer than humans there is no need for an upgrade, he said. He noted that HW 4.0 was rebuilt and rearranged, making it more difficult to fit into HW3 vehicles.

While Tesla continues to develop software for HW4, we expect Model 3 and Model Y vehicles to deliver HW4 sometime this year. After all, Tesla’s “Project Highland” is coming soon, but Tesla may first for Cybertruck Add HW 4.0, after all new hardware output may be limited.
