BYD Atto 3 launched in India, open for bookings with delivery in January 2023

BYD launched its first passenger car ATTO 3 in India, which is an electric sports utility vehicle (SUV), which is renamed Yuan PLUS in China.

BYD, which has previously sold electric buses and electric vehicles to businesses in India, officially entered the passenger car market. At present, BYD ATTO 3 has opened 50,000 Indian rupees (about 4,345 yuan) reservations in India. The official price has not been announced yet, and it has promised that the first 500 vehicles will be delivered from January 2023.

“We plan to sell 15,000 BYD ATTO 3s in India next year and plan to build a local manufacturing plant in due course,” Ketsu Zhang, executive director of BYD India, said in a statement, adding that BYD’s investment in India has exceeded 200 million US dollars (about 1.428 billion yuan).

BYD is currently expanding on a large scale globally, entering markets such as Norway, New Zealand, Singapore, Brazil, Costa Rica and Colombia. Earlier this year, BYD also announced that it will start selling passenger cars in Japan from 2023 and plans to build a factory in Thailand to produce 150,000 vehicles a year from 2024.

Ketsu Zhang said BYD has two manufacturing plants in India, covering an area of more than 140,000 square meters and employing more than 3,000 people. A source familiar with the company’s plans said there would be no need to introduce new investment to assemble and sell the ATTO 3, according to Reuters.
