Formula E releases new GEN3 EVO racing car: 0 to 100 in 1.86 seconds

Formula E released the new GEN3 EVO racing car. It uses four-wheel drive for the first time and can accelerate from 0 to 100 mph in 1.86 seconds.

The new FE GEN3 EVO racing car uses a four-wheel drive system for the first time in the competition, with a maximum power of 350kW (470 brake horsepower) and an acceleration time of only 1.86 seconds from zero to 100. It is the fastest accelerating formula racing car under the FIA, faster than the current The F1 racing car is 30% faster, with a top speed of 322km/h and a kinetic energy recovery power of 600kW.

In other aspects, compared to the GEN3, the GEN3 EVO racing car adopts a new front wing, new tail fins, and a narrower nose cone, which improves aerodynamic performance; the grip of competition tires provided by Hankook increases by 5-10%; The vehicle weighs 859 kg, is 5.02 meters long and 1.7 meters wide.

FIA President Ben Sulayem and FE Formula E CEO Jeff Dodds answered questions about acceleration, track, 600kW super fast charging and more:

Q: Why this head-to-head comparison of F1 cars? Never done this before.
A: We at FE respect F1 very much. F1 is undoubtedly one of the pinnacles of racing and a giant in motorsport. This time we successfully defeated this giant. The R&D teams of the FIA and FE are very Excited, we have completed the 70-year journey in 10 years, which is an important milestone. But we still have a lot to learn from our opponents with an open mind.

Q: Why is only 0-100 acceleration mentioned this time, but what about 0-200 or higher acceleration levels?
A: I am good friends with Domenicali (IT Home Note: F1 CEO), and I promised him to “stop until the point is reached”. We will also play paddle tennis together tomorrow.

Q: Four-wheel drive is the first time in the event, so when will it be used?
A: Four-wheel drive will be used in qualifying knockout rounds, the starting stage of the race, and attack mode. The output is 300kW at the rear wheels and 50kW at the front wheels.

Q: The power of GEN BETA reaches 400kW, why is GEN3 EVO only 350kW?
A: Strictly speaking, GEN3 EVO is not a completely new racing car. It is modified based on GEN3, so you can see that the body shape has not changed much. In terms of performance, we hope to give manufacturers more time to develop GEN4 racing cars. Our The goal is to make GEN4 the fastest all-round formula car. However, the power units of each team will be re-verified next season, and there will be many surprises then.

Q: Will you run more permanent tracks in the future?
A: I don’t know if you have noticed the slogan of this GEN3 EVO: born for all tracks. Street racing is undoubtedly in our DNA, the GEN3 EVO lapped Monaco 2 seconds faster than the GEN3, but at the same time, we also want to explore other possibilities. Oval track? It’s not impossible.

Q: When will super fast charging be available?
A: 600kW super fast charging is a very cutting-edge technology, and we hope to launch it while ensuring everything is foolproof. Safety is always the first priority. We will continue to test it in practice sessions until it is ready and the teams agree to use it.
