Recently, the Netherlands semiconductor equipment maker ASML investment in Asia action frequently, one after another in Taiwan and South Korea to set up factories. Korean media such as BusinessKorea pointed out that ASML’s investment in Taiwan will be five times that of South Korea.

ASML also said that it would consider increasing its investment.

In addition, there is news that ASML is going to make the largest investment ever in Taiwan, and will spend 30 billion NTD (about 6.87 billion RMB) next year to build production and R&D facilities in New Taipei City, Taiwan.

ASML has allocated about $180 million (about 1.282 billion yuan) to build a maintenance and engineer training center in Hwaseong, South Korea. Hwaseong is Samsung Electronics’ semiconductor manufacturing base, and when the ASML facility is completed, Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix will be able to reduce their reliance on imported parts from the Netherlands and have the manpower to repair wafer production equipment locally.

ASML is the world’s only manufacturer of extreme ultraviolet (EUV) equipment, and both Korean companies want to strengthen their cooperation with ASML in order to face fierce competition with TSMC.
