Tesla recalls 321,000 vehicles in the U.S. as tail lights intermittently fail to illuminate

Tesla is recalling more than 321,000 vehicles in the United States because taillights may intermittently fail to illuminate, according to a document made public on Saturday, Reuters reported.

The Texas-based electric car maker said the recall includes some 2023 Model 3 and 2020-2023 Model Y vehicles, according to the filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Tesla will deploy an OTA update to correct the taillight issue and said there have been no reports of crashes or injuries related to the recall.

There are reports that Tesla has issued another “safety recall” due to pressure from the NHTSA to fix the OTA update for the 30,000 Model X models affected, mainly for the problem of front-seat child airbags that deploy unexpectedly.

In September, Tesla CEO Elon Musk made the point that the term “recall” was “outdated and inaccurate” and that most problems could be fixed with an OTA software update.
