Apple iPad 10’s USB-C port speed is slower than other models, at 480 Mbps

Apple’s new 10th-generation iPad comes with a slower USB-C port compared to the new iPad Pro, iPad Air and iPad mini models.

In a review of the new iPad published this week, The Verge noted that the iPad 10’s USB-C port is limited to a data transfer speed of 480 Mbps, which is supported by USB 2.0. This means that despite the USB-C port, the tenth-generation iPad has the same data transfer speed as the ninth-generation iPad with the Lightning connector.

All other iPad models with the USB-C port have faster data transfer speeds, such as the M1 and newer iPad Pro models with Thunderbolt 4 compatibility and data transfer speeds of up to 40 Gbps, the fifth-generation iPad Air with transfer speeds of up to 10 Gbps, and the fourth-generation iPad Air and latest iPad mini with speeds of up to 5 Gbps. .

This limitation may not be important to most users in the iPad 10 target market, but it’s still important information that may cause some users who commonly transfer data by wire to switch to iPad mini or iPad Air.

The major new features of the 10th generation iPad, compared to the previous entry-level model, include a larger 10.9-inch display with narrower bezels, an A14 bionic chip, a USB-C port, a Touch ID power button, a horizontally placed FaceTime camera, a cellular model with 5G support, Wi-Fi 6, and a new Magic Keyboard Folio accessory with a row of function keys.
