Apple iOS 16 Beta 6 doesn’t have the new battery percentage icon

August 16 – Apple today released the iOS 16 Beta 6 system update. The new battery percentage icon, previously introduced in Beta 5 for some iPhones with bangs, is still not available on standard iPhone 11, iPhone XR, iPhone 12 mini, and iPhone 13 mini models after the iOS 16 Beta 6 update.

Since the release of the iPhone X in 2017, and on every iPhone with the bangs notch since then, battery percentage has only been visible in Control Center by swiping down in the upper-right corner of the display. Apple finally made the status bar battery percentage display available for iPhone with bangs last week, but not all iPhones support the feature in the latest iOS 16 Beta.

The new battery icon logo includes the battery percentage within the icon (no longer on the left). The white battery icon remains fully populated until the battery level drops to 20 percent or lower, at which point one-fifth of the icon turns red and the rest of the icon becomes translucent. The current implementation of this icon is proving controversial and is believed to be full all the time. However, iOS 16 is still in Beta testing and other changes may be made.

It’s unclear why the new battery percentage icon isn’t available on some iPhone models with bangs, but the excluded models are either “mini” iPhones or LCD displays (non-OLED versions).

Apple is expected to release iOS 16 to all users with iPhone 8 or newer in September of this year.
