Apple begins development of a 20.25-inch foldable OLED panel in partnership with Samsung and LG

According to TheElec, Apple has begun to cooperate with Korean panel suppliers Samsung Display and LG Display to develop 20.25-inch foldable OLED panels.

However, it has not been determined whether the panel will be commercialized. This project is likely to secure the core technology needed to launch a foldable panel product. The panel is 20.25 inches when unfolded and 15.3 inches when folded. Judging from the size, the panel is likely to be developed for Apple’s MacBook series of laptops.

Apple has not yet applied OLED panels to the iPad and MacBook series. Currently, the MacBook screen is only 16 inches at most, while the iPad is around 10 inches.

TheElec said that the iPad with OLED panels is under development, and Apple is expected to launch 11-inch and 12.9-inch models in 2024, with panels supplied by Samsung Display and LG Display.

The MacBook with an OLED panel is expected to be released around 2026, the report said. A MacBook with a foldable OLED panel could come later, but Apple could launch an iPad with a foldable OLED panel before then.
