According to the latest statistics released by market research firm Circana (formerly IRI and The NPD Group), the item tracker market in the US is growing rapidly, boosted by Apple’s AirTag.

The report says that item trackers such as AirTag have become a must-have for travellers, with sales of item trackers up 82% year-over-year and sales up 63% between January and February of this year.

Circana’s retail tracking service reported a 94% spike in item tracker sales in January 2023 alone. sales of bags and travel accessories grew 16% in 2022, while item tracker sales grew 48%.

Circana reports that despite the current economic downturn, people are spending more on travel than ever before and analysts believe this trend will continue next year.

Ben Arnold, executive director and analyst at Circana, said: “In a challenging 1Q2023, categories such as item trackers, in-ear headsets and mobile power, which keep travellers connected and entertained while on the go, saw positive growth. Travel spending is forecast to continue to pick up in 2023 and 2024”.
