Microsoft has begun testing a new search and filtering system for Windows 11’s Task Manager. It will allow Windows users to easily search for a misbehaving application and end its process or quickly create a dump file, enable efficiency mode, and much more.
“This is the number one feature request from our users for filtering/searching processes,” the Windows Insider team explained in a blog post.” You can filter using binary names, PIDs, or publisher names. The filtering algorithm matches contextual keywords against all possible matches and displays them on the current page.”
The user is able to use the alt+F keyboard shortcut to jump to the filter box in the task manager, and the results will be filtered into a single or a group of processes, which can be monitored or acted upon.

In addition to the new search and filtering features, Microsoft has added the ability to choose between light or dark themes in Task Manager. Themes will also be fully applied to the entire Task Manager, with some updates to its user interface to more closely match Microsoft’s overall fluency efforts.
Last but not least, Microsoft is improving the efficiency mode in Task Manager. This mode is used to set a process to a lower priority or to improve power efficiency, and it will soon be easier to opt out of the confirmation dialog.
All the changes are being tested in today’s latest Windows 11 Beta channel release, which means they will probably arrive in the OS in the coming weeks or months.
