Western Digital has announced its fiscal third quarter report for fiscal 2023, reporting revenue of $2.8 billion (currently about RMB 19.376 billion), down 36% year-over-year and down 10% sequentially, but at the high end of the guidance range; GAAP operating loss was $472 million (currently about RMB 3.266 billion) and non-GAAP operating loss was $304 million (currently about RMB 2.104 billion). Western Digital expects revenue for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2023 to be in the range of $2.4 billion to $2.6 billion (currently approximately RMB 16,608 million to RMB 17,992 million).
Western Digital CEO David Goeckeler said, “Over the past several years, our team has been focused on improving business agility and, combined with actions taken since the beginning of the fiscal year to right-size and refocus the business, our HDD and flash memory businesses are strong, achieving non-GAAP gross margins at the higher end of our guidance range. Western Digital was hacked in March, when the attackers claimed to have stolen approximately 10 terabytes of critical data, including a large amount of customer information, and urged Western Digital to enter into negotiations for a ransom of at least eight figures.
