BlackMagic has released the 18.5 Public Beta 2 update of Da Vinci DaVinci Resolve Studio video editing software, which brings AV1 encoding support for AMD Radeon graphics cards.

After updating to this version, AMD graphics card users will be able to hardware accelerate AV1 encoding in DaVinci Resolve Studio, officially without specifying what architecture or model, and it is expected that AMD graphics card users will be able to try it out.

In 2018, the Open Media Alliance (AOMedia) released a new generation of video coding, AV1 (AOMedia Video Codec 1.0). Developed in collaboration with the Open Media Alliance, the codec encodes 4K UHD video with an average compression rate claimed to be 30% higher than similar encoders and is royalty-free.

DaVinci Resolve Studio 18.5 Public Beta 2 features the following major updates:

  • Ability to perform hardware-accelerated AV1 encoding on DaVinci Resolve on AMD systems.

  • Resolved an issue with synchronizing Blackmagic Presentations tags in DaVinci Resolve.
