VMware Workstation 17.0 Pro Released: New TPM 2.0 Support, Perfect Compatibility with Microsoft Win11

0

VMware Workstation 17.0 Pro is now available and it brings many new features such as Microsoft Windows 11 hard requirement: the virtual Trusted Platform Module (TPM) 2.0.

The introduction of this feature means that the virtual machine now officially supports Windows 11 as a guest operating system. VMware Workstation 17.0 Pro also brings many other new features, such as Windows Server 2022, RHEL 9, and Debian 11. x and Ubuntu 22.04.

According to the release, version 17.0 can also automatically start local virtual machines when the host boots, users can also choose between full or fast encryption, support for OpenGL 4.3 (Windows 7, Linux with Mesa 22.0.0 or higher versions of Linux kernel 5.16.0), and WDDM 1.2.

There are some known issues to be aware of in the new release.

Officially, an incorrect version number may be displayed when you select the ISO image for FreeBSD, but this does not affect the actual installation. You may also experience a white screen on the virtual machine console when the host boots if you have to autoboot configured.

With the new release, VMware Workstation Pro also officially joins the ranks of VirtualBox in providing official support for Windows 11 via Virtual TPM 2.0. While VMware has previously provided initial support for TPM, this is something that makes a lot of sense for Win11 users anyway.
