Aug. 12 – According to Reuters, the communications services of Verizon, the largest U.S. mobile operator, suddenly failed on Aug. 11 local time, causing disruptions to mobile communications services as well as Internet services for thousands of U.S. users.

Reports said the outage began to spike after midnight EST on August 11. According to a U.S. network status monitoring website, the outages occurred mainly in New York, Miami and other eastern U.S. cities.

Verizon Communications’ mobile service outages in Miami were caused by fiber outages due to overnight construction, and the wireless carrier said Thursday it was working with providers and local crews to resolve the issue.

The company said service to customers in the Miami area, which is concentrated near Hialeah and extends south to Kendall and Homestead, was affected.

A Verizon spokesperson said, “Our engineers are aware of the issue and are working with vendor partners and local staff in the field to resolve the issue quickly.”
