The latest issue of Famitsu Magazine interviewed various Valve developers to celebrate Steam Deck is now available for pre-order for players in Asia. During the interview, designer Greg Coomer stated that barring major changes, there will be a new generation of Steam Deck hardware in the future. Themes, sizes and shapes will change, and there may even be a streaming machine. Development work on Steam Deck will continue.

“One of the reasons is that Steam Deck is an extension of our core platform, Steam, which is another form of PC. there are many other uses for Steam, such as on the TV or desktop, and we will continue to work to satisfy our customers as much as possible.”

In the interview, Steam Deck developer Pierre-Loup Griffais identified battery life as one of the “current Steam Deck” issues, again hinting at hardware improvements to come.

“Since the launch, we have improved (battery life). For example, we’ve gotten the game refresh rate up to 40hz, and we’re working to give users better control over battery life. We are also constantly optimizing the OS to reduce battery consumption when playing less demanding games. This will improve battery life. In any case, battery issues are at the top of our list for future improvements.”
