Users can check the battery health of Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 and Pro watches through their phones

Samsung recently announced a new feature that allows Galaxy Watch 5 / Pro watch users to control the zoom level of the connected phone’s camera. The update is already rolling out. The new firmware also brings a more useful feature: the ability to check the battery health of the smartwatch from a paired smartphone.

A new software update for the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 5 Pro brings the ability to check battery health through the Samsung Members app on a connected phone. The new feature is called “Connected Device Diagnostics” and users can also access it from the Galaxy Wearable app on their smartphones. In addition to checking the battery health of the Galaxy Watch 5, it also allows diagnostics to be run for the smartwatch’s touchscreen, speaker and other aspects.

While this new feature won’t extend the battery life of the smartwatch, it will provide a way to keep an eye on the health so users can adjust charging habits to extend the life of the device, and diagnostics will also notify when the wearable’s battery needs to be replaced. This feature may also be released for the Galaxy Watch 4 series. The latest update of Galaxy Buds 2 Pro has also released a similar diagnostic feature.

It’s unclear if this diagnostic feature will work with older smartwatches like the Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 and Galaxy Watch Active 2.
