Yoel Roth, Twitter’s head of security and integrity, said the company’s layoffs yesterday resulted in about 50 percent of its employees losing their jobs after the social media outlet was bought by billionaire Musk.

In a tweet, he said, “Yesterday’s layoffs affected about 15 percent of our security review team (vs. about 50 percent company-wide), with our front-line moderators being the least affected.” He added that he said more than 80 percent of content review volume was unaffected and core functionality was able to be secured.

Separately, Theinformation reported that several key departments at Twitter were badly affected by the massive layoffs the company made Friday, according to employees. Among the hardest hit were the teams responsible for product and advertising engineering, as well as the infrastructure team that runs the data center (known internally as Redbird) and the corporate communications team.

Twitter sent an email to its employees yesterday saying that it will inform them of the results of the layoffs at 9 a.m. Pacific time on Friday. Twitter currently has more than 7,000 employees, and according to previous estimates, it may lay off about 50 percent of its workforce this time around. Twitter said it will notify employees not affected by the layoffs via their office email addresses and employees affected by the layoffs via their personal email addresses.
