Wei said TSMC is building a special process technology fab in Japan, the fab will use 12/16 nanometer and 22/28 nanometer process technology, and is planned to enter mass production at the end of 2024. He also said TSMC is also considering building a second fab in Japan, as long as the level of customer demand and government support is justified.

Wei also said that in Europe, TSMC is in contact with customers and partners to evaluate the possibility of building a special process fab focused on automotive technology based on customer demand and local government support levels.

In December last year, TSMC announced that it would increase its planned $12 billion investment to $40 billion to build two fabs in Phoenix, Arizona, USA, which are scheduled to go into production in 2024 and 2026 to produce 4nm and 3nm chips, respectively.
