On Oct. 26 – TSMC’s smartphone AP foundry market share will reach an all-time high of about 85 percent in 2022, according to the latest data from market research firm Strategy Analytics.

The company’s new data shows that TSMC’s market share in smartphone AP manufacturing will reach an all-time high of about 85 percent by 2022.
The company’s newest product, the 7nm and below smartphone AP, will break the 50% barrier for the first time in 2022. TSMC will have more than 80% share of APs in the 7nm and below manufacturing node.

According to the financial report, TSMC reported revenue of US$20.23 billion (approximately RMB145.049 billion) in the third quarter of this year, with a gross margin of 60.4% and a net operating margin of 50.6%. During the reporting period, TSMC’s 5nm shipments accounted for 28% of total wafer revenue; 7nm shipments accounted for 26%; and 7nm and more advanced processes accounted for 54% of total wafer revenue.

According to a Counterpoint report released this week, TSMC believes that the weak demand for 7nm and 6nm chips is due to cyclical inventory adjustments and delays in shipments from smartphone and PC manufacturers. The current inventory cycle is likely to last until 2023, mainly involving AP/SoCs for mainstream 5G smartphones.
