The first Apple Watch with a microLED display will debut in the spring of 2025, according to information shared by display analyst Ross Young, who said the microLED Apple Watch will launch in the spring of 2025 and that production of panels for the device will begin in late 2024. The panels for the device will begin production in late 2024.

Young’s revelation differs from a recent one by analyst Jeff Pu, who believes Apple will launch the Apple Watch with a MicroLED display in 2024. There’s no indication that the company will change that practice in the next two years, and even if it’s a 2025 launch, it could be in the fall.

One possibility, though, is that Apple releases the microLED Apple Watch in the fall of 2024, when the panel technology is ready, and then ship it in the spring of 2025.

Young did not provide details on the size of the display, but previous reports from Pu indicate that it measures 2.1 inches diagonally, suggesting that the display could be used in a future version of the Apple Watch Ultra. MicroLED is still an emerging technology that display manufacturers are working to perfect, so it makes sense that it would be the first to appear on Apple’s higher-end and more expensive Apple Watch. So it makes sense that the screen would first appear on Apple’s higher-end and more expensive Apple Watch.

That microLED technology refers to self-luminous micron-sized LEDs as light-emitting pixel units, which are assembled to drive the panel to form a high-density LED array display technology that provides more accurate color, high contrast to improve HDR and viewing under sub-optimal lighting conditions, supporting viewing from a wider angle, and compared to technologies such as OLED, the burn-in screen appears less chance of burn-in, faster response times, lower latency, and support for higher frame rates than technologies like OLED.

Apple is likely still in the early stages of developing the microLED Apple Watch, so the timeline is subject to change at any time.
