Tesla sold 39,714 cars in Germany in 2021, German media reported on Sept. 19. A German executive said Tesla plans to double its car sales in Germany to about 80,000 in 2022.

Tesla has reportedly built its first European superfactory in Glen Head, near Berlin. The plant, Tesla’s fourth superfactory, opened on March 22 this year and currently only produces the Model Y.

In June, the plant reached 1,000 units per week for the first time, a major milestone since it started production in March, meaning it has surpassed 4,000 units per month.

To increase production, the plant suspended car production for 12 days between July 11 and July 22 this year for an upgrade.

At the end of July, foreign media reported that Tesla’s Berlin mega-factory was planning to produce 3,000 Model Ys per week starting in October.

During an earnings call in July, Drew Bagrino, Tesla’s senior vice president of powertrain and energy engineering, noted that by the end of the year, the Berlin super factory could reach 5,000 units per week.
