Early today, it was reported by Sina Technology that Tesla has suspended production in its factory in Shanghai due to supply issues.

Almost a month ago, on the 14th of April, a dynamic was posted in the WeChat circle of friends by He Xiaopeng, the founder and chairman of Xiaopeng Motors. This dynamic points to the severe challenges faced by the current automotive industry chain.

It states, “If supply chain companies in and around Shanghai can’t find a way to dynamically resume work and production, all Chinese automakers may have to stop work and production in May”.

On April 15th, a day after this statement, Yu Chengdong, the CEO of Huawei’s consumer business and CEO of Smart Car, also posted in the circle of friends. The post said that if Shanghai cannot resume work and production, all technology/industrial industries involving Shanghai’s supply chain will be completely shut down after May, especially the automotive industry.

It was reported that Tesla’s Shanghai Gigafactory was shut down on the 28th of March due to the epidemic and resumed work on the 19th of April, smoothly. The factory had a production count of 2,100 cars per day. Based on this number, tesla’s Shanghai plant has produced nearly 44,100 vehicles after the shutdown in March. This number represents only about 14.5% of Tesla’s production in the last quarter.
